Like many others I am also a daily visitor to this web-site.Its very fine and ok with me and Indeed it must be fine with the “many-million others” too!You deserve this break and Space for sorting things out or whatever: because you are the unique of your kind.Everyday You spread out such expensive treasures, which I say that no one must take for granted.So Happy Maintainence day and Rather I wish to see more such days:because these kind of events let users understand and respect the real worth of your hard work!

Good, occasional maintenance of (any) system is not only a good practice but also a necessity, and only fools will be angry today because of this.
I would recommend to visitors: why not make this day maintenance day for *your* computers too? Clean up your hard drive of unneeded files (movies you don’t need, music you hate, unneeded pictures and ton of other stuff you think you have nor will have use of), uninstall stuff you don’t need, use some good utility to get rid of junk files, check for viruses, spyware etc., clean and optimize your registry, defragment your hard drive(s), check your hard drive(s) for errors… And don’t forget to…BACKUP!

Thank heavens I saw your comment,Slava. Thinking that my PC’s calendar was broken I did a double take to check with other friends to ensure today is really Thursday, the 22nd, somewhere in the world.
GAOTD is part of my morning ritual along with an extra dose of coffee this morning. I’ll be doing the same maintenance as mentioned above by User32, who is absolutely right….BACKUP all those valuable files.
See you tomorrow when you will be back with more fresh ideas.

To the commenters remarking on today as a day of rest, or positing a wish for advance notice of GAOTD maintenance days …

I was one of those awake and trying to view the site at its normal turnover time this morning, and I suspect this was not a planned maintenance day for GAOTD, but a difficulty they find themselves fixing at present.

As happened last maintenance day, I’m fairly sure this page will fill quickly with words of thanks for all they do for us, and with good wishes for the GAOTD team.

I look forward to that: It’s one of the things that makes this site unique and gives it a true family feel.

So … I just want to give you all a heads up before you comment; and I also want to let people like TAPASH — who was, at that time, in a situation of needing to walk 7 km just to check the GAOTD offers — know that GAOTD would never leave you in that situation willingly, and I’m sorry that they are having to deal with whatever the problem is, but, if I am correct in what I think is happening … I’m grateful that they care enough to do so thoroughly.

Hope this doesn’t sound like a pompous lecture or anything … I just wanted to let y’all know that I believe it was unplanned on their parts, and that their surprise equals ours.

12 years ago, when AT&T gave a weeks notice that their internet lines would be down for maintenance, someone asked “how does this differ from the dozens of other times a year you are down”? Their reply: “This one is announced”.

GAOTD, even though it’s unscheduled, you’re still way ahead of the pack.

Tried to get in last night to get Button Maker 3. It would not download. Was there a problem?

Thanks to GOTD for the heads up and to TWNG for the additional explanation.

It is good to have an occasional 100% day for positive comments, without references to freeware that does it better.

If the downtime was indeed made necessary but sone unanticipated problem as TWNG suggests, I hope you are able to resolve it quickly before anyone starts to feel the onset of withdrawal symptoms.

I tried last night to get the button program and your kept getting an error. Since you were having problem’s with your site, will you be allowing May 21st program to be downloaded again? I would really like to download it.

yeah i agree with some of the above–take today, run cleanup wizard, then defrag all your hard drives, and uninstall any stuff you never use anyway–make more room for cool giveaways

and a great idea is the one about if you have errors during the day that make it not possible to download, maybe have 2 giveaways the next day–the new one, and the one from the day before. If that would be possible, i dont know, maybe theres an issue with copyright and program vendors, but it would be a good thing to try–i missed out a while back on a good program for dvds and by the time the server worked there was like 2 minutes left to download a 4 minute program
maybe another idea? instead of having to install the same day, put a time tag on the program, like some shareware programs do, when you download it and you have 24 hours from the time you download to install. I am sure some people have finished downloading toward the end of the giveaway and then when they install, oops its like 2 minutes after the free period.

Ooh, loved tha Button Maker program. BTW, I was able to download it just fine yesterday evening. Maybe a different server is used out on the East side of the country.

I can use quite a few of the software GAOTD offers. With the exception of the screensavers. Hopefully GAOTD will come to realize that very few people actually care for screensavers.

I also was not able to download Button Maker 3. Would greatly appreciate if you ran it again.

So … I’m waiting patiently to satisfy my withdrawals from GAOTD. Hoping right at midnight there’s something new. For starters, what ’bout some kind of avi video file splitter, so we can split a large file to be able to copy to more than 1 cd if it doesn’t fit on one or even a pdf splitter. I haven’t come across those yet. Happy Memorial Day!

Well……its not OK with me grumble..,grumble ……should have thought about it earlier……..grumble……..do it on your own time…..all you clowns sayings it is OK with you if these flakes take off un-announced and ruin a day that probably would not be much good ..grumble…….probably have a screen saver tomorrow - if you don’t take off and go to the fair or some such stupid thing……where is the stupid game? Did those flakes take off a day too. I guess not working all week wore the game team out too.grumble.see if I care!! If its not a screen saver its some dumb iPod crap thing that converts AC to DC and then back to PDF…

I didn’t realize how much I looked forward to seeing what the software was, until it wasn’t for a day or two. Even if I don’t download it, I make it part of my day to check in here and see what up for free, and who’s complaining about it. It never ceases to amaze me how many people will complain about something they come to willingly, and doesn’t cost them anything. Personally, I’ve got a few real gems here, a couple that I’ve actually had the boss pay for at work once I realized how good they were.

I want say hello only and thank you for all your efforts and work give to us great software, some of them sometimes we never could put the hand on that, if not were your work.

Here from Brazil, I am one of that users which get a great piece of software. The great part of them I had not installed in yhe same download day and lost the right to have it registered. Sometime I had not spare time to follow this, and athought I downloaded I lost the chance to had it fully functional and registered. But one or other were installed and a saved the registration data/key.
