PDF-to-Word converter problem: giveaway will be restarted this week

Hello everyone,
Sorry for delay with this post, I am away from office and fast internet connection as well. PDF-to-Word problem is acknowledged and there will be a working software build available this week. Both we and the software publisher are sorry for this problem, and we will do our best to fix it asap.
We had to do a giveaway switch since we couldn’t fix the package fast enough in the middle of a weekend.

Yours,
Slava

  7. Damn, I didn’t even notice the trouble till it was pointed out in the forums as you deleted the entire pdf-to-word folder and ALL the comments! It would have been better for us if you had just closed the pdf-to-word giveaway early and added the quick stand-in to fill in for the remainder of the 24 hour period. As is you’ve left us going huh what happened? what was the problem that warrented complete deletion… Untill I found the reason in the forums you had me worried that some malware had been installed or something!

Still not much point keeping it and unlikely to bother instaling the fixed version when it comes out as it does not OCR images in scanned to pdf PDF files, only outputing just the basic text properly prnted PDF files.

  8. Hey, no problems. It will be good to compare this with Expert PDF, which I bought a couple of months ago. Looking forwards to it.

    regards

  12. Well it downloaded and installed ok for me, and ran the example conversion. So what was the problem? Seriously, I DO want to know.

  13. I guess some will not know that Netstat agent is being offered.I was lucky enough to check back about the next giveaway,to download Netstat about 50 minutes to the dead line.

Also, when installing the pdf to word software[although I downloaded yesterday itself,I installed it only few minutes back]it gets installed without any errors, while checking “giveaway availability”.

I hope most people check back and download NetStat Agent and install it in time.

  14. Thanks for the info~

The PDF converter is a very good software for many and it’s glad that a working one can be provided soon.

    Keep up your good work!

  16. Goodness, what problem? It’s working fine for me. I hope it’s a fast fix for you guys.

I used it today to convert a free wood-cutting pattern to rtf where I used Open Office to delete a part I didn’t want to print. There is also a second pattern-related problem with the pattern’s print area being too large for a normal letter-sized page.

This way, PDF-to-Word helped me save ink. A good software! :D

  20. Downloaded it the very minute it was featured on the site.

    Am still using it.

Was wondering why it suddenly disappeared

  21. Please could you let me know when the PDF-to-Word converter is available again?
    Thanks, Dave H.

  22. Good.

The text file for MultiSet is misleading. In my case, moving the activation file to the program file won’t work. Must activate from another ( i.e. Desktop) location.

  24. I must admit that yesterday, I was one of the ones who downloaded and installed the PDF to Word give away yesterday. I used it and liked it. Made a special trip to a friend’s house to download and install it for them as they don’t know how to do it. Was quite surprised to see that PDF to Word had been removed. Now I must ask why? I had no trouble with it.

  25. Hello Slava,

I have been using this site for over a year and have thoroughly recommended it to many people; however on 17th August you gave away a program, Plato iPod PSP 3GP Convertor, that came with a particularly damaging strain of Spyware. Despite many, many requests from commentors that day (and, indeed, subsequent days) for an official explanation from the site regarding this, yourself and the site have failed to make any mention of it whatsoever. This I find wholly disconcerting.

The site displays a “no viruses, no spyware” emblem and it is for that reason that so many trust the site. I am aware that McAfee SiteAdvisor have given http://giveawayoftheday.com a red rating, something which I have personally ‘campaigned’ against in the past as the site was also safe and I believed rigorously tested. The bottom line is that if the Spyware incident of 17th August was an error and unintentional then not officially responding to people’s concerns is only going to damage your site’s perceived integrity. Please would you offer an explanation of what happened on that day and whether the same is ever going to happen again – I for one have been wary of the site since then which is a real pity and something which you could easily extinguish in myself and I’m sure other users if you would only offer reassurance regarding this issue.

    Thanks! Go GAOTD!

  29. For all who wonder what was wrong… the program had a limit of 3 pages to convert to Word. If you had to convert more, on the pages 4 or more was written you had to buy the full version, even though the registration was succesfully done by GOATD. As you all can read they are working on it to get it fixed.

  30. What an excellent site and service – don’t listen to the complainers and whiners who expect their fairy tale lives to be all about them – we appreciate the offerings!

  31. Thanks for providing the information. One minute the page was there, the next it had changed to a completely different product, & I wondered if I’d done something wrong. I’m looking forward to the PDF-to-Word Converter being available very soon.

  32. If this works when they get it out, I’m definitely buying it. I’ve been looking for one that does what it says it will. For under $200, that is. I just can’t afford a uni-tasker like that.

  34. Trying to understand exactly whats not working? I downloaded this software and have converted like 5 PDF files to word and all have done just fine…
The interface is generic at best but it still seems to work so far. Can anyone tell me what is bad about the file I installed??

  35. Guessed that was the problem, looking forward to the reposting, this is one I need. Great fun going through your offers, and some v useful to me – thanks for all the hard work.

  36. Lol this program is useless.

Just use Acrobat and get on with your lives.

  37. Hi Merril (comment 25), I downloaded that particular program and after checking it over with two Anti Virus programs, found it clean. There was a warning about un-checking the box which would have installed a dialer, but this was clearly indicated in the EULA, so personally I have no problems with the Giveaway site. I’m sure the teams are extremely busy trying to find other original and useful software to sate the appetites of the community.

Don’t get me wrong, a few words from them would go a long way to quite the unrest that such programs create. Still I think each user is responsible for their own actions. If you can’t take adequate precautions, which includes reading the EULA and watching your installation through all its stages, then it’s the fault of the user for having had the dialer installed in the first place.

B.t.w …..I’ve still got the program installed and I’ve never had any problems with my computer. There’s no outward bound traffic that I don’t know about.

I think posts such as yours create unneeded unrest, and you should be more careful in how you express your concerns. Try to see both sides of this rather than going for the jugular.

Comment by Dreamer — September 18th, 2008 at 7:15 am
  38. Hello Dreamer #37,

Thank you for your reply. First of all, the comment at #25 was an email I sent direct to the site and I was surprised that they published it here; as such it was not, in fact, intended to cause any “unneeded rest” nor to “go for the jugular”.

I do disagree somewhat with what your comments regarding the Spyware included with the Plato program of 17th August; stating it in the EULA or not, the software included is wholly illegal – the Spyware reads and reports back to the developer ALL information viewed on a computer, including secure pages – entire banking details such as on PayPal accounts will be open for thrid parties to view and, according to the EULA, use as they wish which is completely against the law.

I wholly understand that the EULA gave the option of not installing the Spyware but in practice it is irresponsible and unrealistic to condone the Spyware included because of this – there will always surely be visitors, for example perhaps inexperienced or elderly people, who do not read or indeed understand the implications of the EULA and, frankly, the site states with a daily banner that the downloads are safe and free from Spyware and Viruses, something that regardless of the EULA this particular download was not and that is unacceptable. It is unreasonable to argue that the customer is given the chance not to install the Spyware when the site explicitly states that there is not any Spyware present.

Furthermore, the use of Anti-Virus to detect Spyware is somewhat akin to trying to find water with a metal detector; the 2 are totally separate entities and you need to run Anti-Spyware programs in order to detect Spyware as it is separate to a Virus.

Finally I do wish to stress that I genuinely do not normally complain about any aspect of this site and wholly appreciate what the website does. I have, as I said in comment #25, written to McAfee in the past arguing against the red rating they gave GOTD and on 2 of my own sites rigorously promote the site as well as frequently recommending it. My original comment therefore shows the uniqueness and severity of my complaint and that of the nature of the malicious program included with the Plato program.

    Thanks.

  42. I also downloaded this PDF program the minute it was up on the site. I found out not long after that it was gone and a new one was there in it’s place. I downloaded this new program and just thought that the GOTD Team had put the PDF program up before they meant to so when it was back on the site again I didn’t bother to re-download it. I think that it was very bad form of the GOTD Team not to inform us on the site at the time their reason for withdrawing the PDF program as now I and many others are stuck with a program that they thought was in good working order which they had wanted for a long time and now find out that it is a dud. i for one am not at all impressed. I too have told many of my friend etc. about this site. Now i have to contact them all to tell them that they have a dud and missed out on the real thing. Thanks a lot.

  43. I know about the software at the last day. I downloaded the PDFtoWord converter and installed it. Checking for the site and everything went smoothly until the last step and was confronted with a pop message saying it would not work properly, reinstalling it would solve the problem. which I did several times but still unable to use it.

  44. I understand from another listserv that I am on that the PDF to word converter was available yesterday, but I did not get a notice as I had signed up for. I’m disappointed I missed out on this.
