Game Giveaway site – weekends only for now

Hello everyone!

Today`s news is Game Giveaway change. This part of our website will only be active during weekends starting this week.

I know that`s a sad news for game fans, and we plan to go back to full online mode soon, but for now we need our team to concentrate on some new projects and tasks and we were limited on programmers and sysadmins since the beginning of this website, so hiring new guys is only a theoretical option – in fact, IT has been a seller`s market here for three years already and situation seems to be getting worse – skilled people are scarce.

So, to sum it up – if we want to add something new – we need use our existing resources and prioritize.

Anyway, I`ll try to surprise you with 2 great games for this weekend:)

Yours,
Slava
GOTD team (yes, you finally pressed me enough to fix the abbreviation:)

  1. Aw Gee! What a disappointment! Weekends I don’t always get to LOOK at the new game of the day! I guess I’ll have to “try harder” to get there, no matter WHAT! Sure hope you’ll come back every day SOON!!

  2. Which site are you referring to here? Is there a section of http://www.giveawayoftheday.com that does this? or is it another site?
    thanks

  12. People need to be more thankful for what you do and not complain about what you don’t do. I believe for the most part, people do this, but I suppose there will always be those few who are going to gripe and complain about not getting a free game every day. I think I would have to ask them, “Where else could you go to get a full size game for free?” If there is a better site than GGAOTD, then just shut up and go to it. I think all of you do a wonderful job in providing us with quite a variety of games. Again, some people gripe and complain about the genre of the game and I have an answer for them too; Don’t download it!!!

  15. Jeanne: How long have you been with the program – 4 minutes?

Many of us having been coming here since it’s inception – ONLY for the games and sadly, I think many will look for an alternative game site to belong to – Jeanne, this is NOT the only one, so stop trying to play MissDon’tYouKnowIKnowEverything.

My fear for GAOTD is that those people who truly love their games, or are disabled (this IS their escape from life’s sadness,) will find them and not return here.

Even Game Passes to other game web sites are not that expensive any more (some under $10) which gives you unlimited access to ALL their games – many of which are brand new and unfettered with download problems, along with a multitude of other problems, such as that which happens here.

I’d rather pay the $10 bucks and not have the innumerable issues that I encounter here a lot of the time.

And yes, free is better than even $1, so I do keep checking back, from time to time, many won’t bother.

  16. Like No. 11, I will miss getting a new game each day but thank you for all that you do, I appreciate it. And I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this weekend. Cheers.

  17. Well bad news for me.If you do it on weekends only then provide some good ones.Just small or old ones won’t do.

  18. #gAmeLoVer

I agree with all that you say. I am disabled and my game play is poor. The hunt and chase will change. No matter the quality of the game being offered here it is still the first place I come.

Slava, no mention of the forums’ future. The games forum can still be a place for information exchange. Continuing comments from the team and moderators might be a way to keep all from drifting away. If good information is shared, the site will stay active.

If you need help, I design and maintain websites and I can post the game section if you want to keep it going full time while you work on other projects. Also I was sraff on 7 graphic mailing lists, have you thought of adding a graphic of the day that people can save if they like it? I can create graphics and even personalize them….. have 30,000+.

Chances are, loyal Giveaway fans will be posting free games on the forums, to appease the insatiable gamers among us. Perhaps you could leave a note on the Game Giveaway site with a link to the forums as well as your freeware library?

During the past year, you and the Giveaway team have consistently intrigued and surprised us, so I’m sure whatever you are working on will be well worth the wait.

  31. Funny, I’m what’s called a hard-core gamer (Unreal Tournament 3, Quake 4, you-get-the-picture). BUT, I discovered this site some time ago and found myself enjoying a variety of the Game-of-the-Day downloads as well! Never thought I’d get into the Match 3/Breakout/Puzzle stuff, but yup, it happened. So, belated thanks to you who kept the offerings coming. Will check back on weekends to see what’s up. Good luck on getting things together. No complaints, just much thanks!

  32. Regardless wither the games are free on the weekends or everyday, its FREE. I’ve read alot of the comments by people here, I’ll say this.. all those who’re appreciative of the “free” games I’m sure the people who run this site thank you. To all you ungrateful people who demand that they return to every day giveaways.. consider this.. how long has this been going on for free? have you ever done anything as kind as they have? what right do you think you have to make such outrageous demands??

So once more to the people who run this place, keep up the great work, regardless of what games or software your giving away just keep at it =)

Oh.. and lastly.. beggars can’t be selective.

  33. i’m disabled and love coming here for free games..its too bad that your shutting down for now..but..still love ya here and will be coming back w/e’s to see what you have..good luck in what you are doing…

  34. re: comment 28…yeah, uh huh…i just LOVE crack sites…you know the ones i mean…the ones where you get a trojan or some other such nasty thing that slows your puter and geeks all your other games.

i much prefer waiting for the weekend to get a game, knowing it will be safe to use and won’t make my antivirus go nuts.

…if you don’t like this site, go elsewhere. you whiners do a monumental amt of bellyaching but offer no viable solutions or even half way logical suggestions.

GOTD, you all just keep doin what you’re doin and don’t worry bout the cry babies. there’s not enuff tissue in the world for them anyways.

I appreciate all the work you folks have done and the wide variety of games you have provided. They’ve provided me with many hours of enjoyment. 39. Replying time:

“I think I would have to ask them, “Where else could you go to get a full size game for free?”” Dude. You’re sitting in front of a computer with internet access. You can get -anything- for free, and these games are hardly full size (no offence, few people will download a “full size” game via ftp/http).

“Oh gee! That sucks. I would rather miss the software and get the games. :(

It’s a tragic time for us gamers. :(”

Anyone who relies on GGAOTD for their gaming needs or considers this loss bad enough to be called tragic is not and should never be a gamer :P

  40. To Slava and the rest of the GOTD (Thanks for that!) team …

I wanted to add my thanks to the list. I’ve downloaded many of your games over the last couple of years and even if I didn’t keep them all, it’s been wonderful to have the chance to try so many without risking any hard earned money.

Of course it’s a shame that GGOTD will only be weekends from now on – Personally I’m just glad you’re consolidating rather than closing down. It sounds as though you may lose a few of your less appreciative visitors, but I suspect the majority understand your situation and will stick around and keep recommending your site to others.

I look forward to seeing the results of all your planning and preparing in the near future!

    All the best,

  43. I think that weekends only might be a good thing for a while. The people who complain about the FREE games you give away may get to appreciate your work a little more. (I can dream can’t I?) In addition, you can be more selective in what games you give away. This way, we may never see the Dwarves game v23. :). Good luck in your new projects, I always appreciate the games you have given away, especially Brickshooter Egypt and Treasure of Montezuma, which I cannot stop playing.

I have enjoyed this site for a long time and have told a lot of poeple about it, they have enjoyed the games as well ,,, I will miss the games and am not to sure if I will be here on the weekends to get what ones you have to offer. But it was good while it lasted I sure hope all the others I have told about this site will not come down on me for the choices you have made. Good luck and I sure Hope things go well for you. Sorry to see the games go, but nothing last for ever.

  45. It was sad to read that the ‘games’ are only available on the weekend – hopefully, your time will allow one on Saturday and one on Sunday? Well, time to go through my “GAOTD” file and play the one’s that I haven’t played in a while.

I know that your site needs to grow and expand, too! Best wishes that your new project will be created smoothly and very soon that a ‘game’ will be offered. I am truly greatful for all the free offers, will continue visiting each day and want to thank you all for your hard work!

  46. Bummer! So….. could you maybe keep the games available during the week? Lots of us can’t be online on the weekends. Like last one – I sure wish I could download the Age of Japan game – looks like a good one!

  52. Well here goes this little old Nana again …………

    # 15 … # 12 only said what many of us feel who have been here a LONG time. Of course we are not all teenagers who do not care who we hurt.

    # 18 … I’m disabled and come here for games. But I have been given a couple hundred $ or so of games – several of which I was planning to buy or would have bought. So this change will NOT keep me from coming NOR change how much I appreciate GOTD for all they do.

    # 39 … I BEG YOUR PARDON but when have you been to the stores and looked at game titles for family oriented choices? Ones like Age of Japan are indeed there … we were given a full game! And others that I have downloaded have also been full versions … the exact same as what comes on the CD in the stores! But we don’t get the CD nor the documentation in print.

People … complain all you want about something that you have a right to complain about. BUT keep in mind … WE are getting commercial programs for free. At least say thank you once in a while!

THank you GOTD and SLAVA and all the others who make this possible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  61. Slava and GOTD team:
Thank you for letting us know what’s been happening! I’m thankful that you’re not leaving us altogether. Does this just affect the game part and that there will still be GOTD programs daily?
And, like someone else mentioned, if you people would check the forums you’ll find a lot of other game links and useful stuff available to satisfy you.
I appreciate all the work and effort put into this site, and I’ve been fortunate to make friends with a lot of great people on the forums.
As a side note, perhaps this will weed out the one’s that don’t really appreciate all that you are doing, and the best of luck in whatever your new projects are!!!!

  62. Bummer. The games on there didn’t really catch my interest. Actually I’m making a sweet video game. Also for the regualar giveaway, a good suggestion would be Magic DVD Ripper. I’ve been waiting for that one for a while now.

  65. Hi, I too have loved the games giveaways, for the time being there are some alternatives by way of freeware, I have linked the URL in my name below to one such option.

  66. Hello, Slava and GOTD Team…

Thank you for this site and for all the games you have so tirelessly found for me over the course of my time here. You are awesome and so deeply appreciated. I will miss the daily offerings of games. I guess it will make the weekends that much more anticipated.

Although I started coming here only for the game giveaways, I have ventured into the regular giveaway site and tried out a couple of apps and one screen saver as well. Coming here is like stopping by a friend’s house every day for a cup of coffee and a chat. I will continue to do so. Who knows what software I will find of interest during the week if I am not distracted by games? But the company is good regardless, so count me in. See ya tomorrow!

  67. To the GOTD team:
Thanks for your free games! I’ve been visiting the site for over a year now, and have been thrilled with many of the games you’ve offered. Good luck with your labor shortage woes, and just to let you know: Your efforts are very much appreciated. Funyny how some only want to complain; totally ungrateful and even with ATTITUDE! People and their manners…hmph! Thanks again for a job well done, Slava – and the entire team, as well.

  68. You do a fantastic job for a lot of people so when the times get tough, should we be the weeklings who quit in the face of your hard graft? I think not.
Whatever you offer, both on main downloads or games downloads is fine.
Personally, on both streams, some I like some I don’t. That’s me, not you.
I seldom make coments but this is a time for showing appreciation for hard work. Thank you GotD.

  69. I think maybe an “honor roll” of those who have offered the most giveaways to the site, or the giveaways that were the best liked, or maybe both, would encourage software creators/sellers. (And maybe a “dishonor roll” would discourage those who have offered software that turned out inferior.)

I’ve seen some certain companies whose programs appear here frequently, and whose programs usually get good comments, and I think it would be nice and also encouraging, if there was some kind of “honor roll” for them.

  70. Thank you for all you do! It is appreciated. Will look forward to the weekends now

I do not have a game console my laptop is what I play my games on. I was so very happy to find your web site and it will stay on my favories list for as long as you are on the Internet. My laptop is my window on the world so thank you for giving me games to look forward to everyday or just on the weekends.

  74. I much rather have the game giveaways just on the weekends, rather than the regular software. I enjoy the free for a day software and occasional screensavers, to alot of the silly games I’ve seen here. Games I guess are good for those that have become one with their computers, but for those of us who have a life, we can put up with twice a week for game giveaways

Comment by Robert — March 17th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
  75. I have to agree with Granny Annabelle, that I’d rather have the games than the applications, but I’m sure many would disagree. At least we will still see some games at the weekend. I look forwards to Sataurday. :)

    Also thanks for everything.

Good luck on whatever new project you’re working on. And thanks for the uncountable days of pleasure you’re shared with us. :)

  77. A minor suggestion:

Perhaps having the giveaway days be split up like Saturday/Monday, so those who only have weekday access can get one of them?

  78. Oh my G-d! say it isn’t so!! I have been searching frantically for a new game with which I might conquer my obsession with Rise of
Atlantis. Now you tell me I am trapped in a 2 a week situation. Have Pity, please. I need something to stop me before I play again!!

I was visiting this website everyday just for the games.
I hope if is going to be only weekend that the games are going to be good at least.

Good luck on your new project anyway.

  82. Many thanks Game Giveaway team, for all you do and have done. I would like to suggest, if you are going to give away two weekend games, that you post them both on Friday or Saturday. Additionally, as another person suggested, it would be nice if they could be left available during the following week.

  83. I forgot to mention…

Did’nt Gamegiveaway recently go off for their holidays and said “We’ll be back with new and exciting stuff”? and of course we got the same games from months ago?

Comment 34 does’nt know how to use crack sites it seems, I personally never get a virus or trojan (simply use a reputable one and don’t take your AV program as 100% accurate!)

I’ve had virus alerts from this site but false alerts of course :-)

  84. I can only imagine how much time and effort goes into this site daily. As always, it is interesting to see each day’s offer – if I don’t need/can’t download, well, so be it. It’s a CHANCE for a freebie. Nobody needs a NEW game every day anyway. Now we will have 5 days we don’t have to read the complainers of the ‘type’ of game or repeats offered! HeHe
Good luck GOTD on your new projects, and thanks for all you do.

It’s very nice that you are still going to provide free games on the weekends when you could have just as easily decided not to do it anymore at all, with be short handed. Good luck on your new endeavors. :) :)

It was a daily rendez-vous with good games.

Thanks for all and good luck for your projects.

Now, we will wait for the week-end for saying : “Ha ? What’s new ?” but we can understand.

  90. Thank you GOTD for letting us know what is happening. I appreciate getting a free game any time, so two a week is a bonus. I also just found the forums, so now this gives me time to catch up on my reading. Also I want to thank WhiteRabbit, and Bobby619 for their explanations of the games. I always look forward to reading both reviews, they give me an idea of what the game is about, and from there I make a decision whether or not to download.
GOTD keep up the good work, you are very much appreciated.

  91. I also often found myself spending more time on the gaming side than the other. Hope you will be up and running at full tilt again soon. Meanwhile, I’ve been playing a clever combination game: Mahjongg Investigations – Under Suspicion. Not sure how old it is, but it does play on Vista so it can’t be too old. It’s an actual combination of crime solving by pairing Mahjongg tiles to gather clues to solve the crime. It’s NOT just a back story to a Mahjongg game.

Very interesting combo, but it works. Pair the tiles to get clues to eliminate or narrow the suspects and find the culprits. Starts easy, but grows harder. Features: being able to interrogate suspects (mini-concentration game: more matches, more clues discovered), clues sent off to the lab and multiple criminals, crime scenes to investigate per case. And always, you have to solve the case before the clock runs down.

Something maybe to tide you over for awhile.

I turn on several friends and family members onto the website, got them hooked on the games, only to have them taken away for a short while (ie limited basis). Terrible thing to do too game junkies.

Needless to say, my ass has gotten a chewing everytime I hear from one of those junkies. Soon I shall have none left. If only I could get them to chew on my abs, I could have a flat stomache.

  98. Quoting: “…but for now we need our team to concentrate on some new projects and tasks and we were limited on programmers and sysadmins… ”

I find this a lame excuse to slow down the game giveaways, couldn’t you at least come up with something better? Your “programmers” and “sysadmins” are LOOKING for games to giveaway, not writing them. Your website format is templates and takes seconds to update once you have the game chosen.

So either your out of people to look for games, or your out of games, but don’t give us your bs.

  100. Darn. Does this mean that only on weekends will I have the continuing joy of coming to this site and reading all the complaints from all the crybabies who are upset because the free game you gave them is not the latest, most popular game in their favorite genre? Whatever shall I do with all the extra time I will now have that used to be spent perusing the whines of the people who would complain if the $100 bill you just gave them was dirty?

WAIT! I think I know! I will just look at all the archived comments in order to get my daily fix! Sure, I missed out on all those past games, but more importantly, I will be able to entertain myself with something even more exciting than a free game: Comments from ungrateful complainers! Oh JOY!!!

For all those of you who actually appreciate a free game, I will be posting in the FORUMS some links to some games I think are worth downloading.

#102 I agree on the forums, one thing I would change is allow users to specify their own passwords rather than only giving the option to reset it to some random unmemorable string.

  104. Let me add my comments to the many. too bad, I’ll miss it, it was fun having something to look forward to at 3:00 am est.
I just checked my games folder. THANK YOU so very mush for the FORTY-FOUR absolutely FREE games! Some have been addicting, some childish, some I may barely play once or twice more before deleting. and there were many others that I tried once and dumped, or which wouldn’t install or run roperly for me. But it was always worth the risk and the time and like the slogan says, the price was always right.
I’ve gotten a lot more use out of the games than of the various manistream GOTD programs. if you’re going to reprioritize, Might you consider just merging the halves – maybe doing mainstream utility programs four days a week and games the other three? I’d think that would be an ideal solution that would actual reduce the workload overall rather than relegating half to back-burner status.
A couple actual questions. I agree that weekends only will inconvenience people who visit the site from work. Though why they’d download games to their employers computers is beyond me. Anyway, does the two games on weekends plan mean one on Saturday, one on sunday, or will both games be offered for both days. What constitutes a two day weekend? Friday night 3:00 am to Monday morning 3:00 am would technically be three days, but it would certainly cover the weekend. If not those hours, than what? Finally, and not entirely facetiously, although the joke has already been suggested, but will the site name be changed to “Game Giveaway(s) of the Weekend?” Siince “of the day” will no longer be accurate.
I’ve never really understood how giving games away was supposed to be profitable either for you or for the game companies you work with. but I hoped you knew. Good luck with your future, I hope you can hang in here.
And one more time, thanx for all the great games.

Thanks for explaining & giving a schedule to expect. This sounds like a better “P.R.” than the l-o-n-g “vacation/holiday” last year. When only the games were idle, while the software GOTD continued un-interrupted, made me wonder if there was a focus on one above the other.
This is your business to run as you see fit. I appreciate what games I’ve gotten & look forward to your future offers.

  116. Daily, when I turn my computer on, I come to this website FIRST. Why? Because the GOTD provides clean, free software to all of us who visit. Didn’t read all the posts here, but want to include my 2 cents.

#12, Jeanne, is 100% correct. #15, gAmeLoVer, was rude/sarcastic to Jeanne. Why? Because he/she didn’t agree with Jeanne’s post? #32, Corzane, is oh so right, we’re given things FREE. Then we read that gAmeLoVer, and a few others, are disabled, and that games is oh so important to them. Gimme a break! I’m disabled also, and thank goodness for this site, and would never even THINK to toss in “I’m disabled and you’re doing me an injustice by not providing a FREE game to me 7 days a week”. How dare you! Stop using a disability as a crutch because you make it bad for others who are disabled.

I continue to be amazed at people who post rude words to other posters. Yes, we have free speech but free speech brings out a lot of crazies because the Internet is anonymous. People abuse free speech. If someone doesn’t like a website, hey, move on!

THANK YOU Slava, and the entire staff at GOTD, for what you have provided all us visitors to your website and for the MANY happy hours you’ve provided me over the past few months. I am extremely appreciative of GOTD provides me

  120. It boils down to “the more you get, the more you want and expect,” and add to that “gratitude is the fond expectation of fools.” Incidentely I too am disabled (injured pinky) and am most aggrieved not to have my games delivered each day on a Golden Tray. I am also a minority, and suspect this may be some kind of plot, am considering a discrimination suit.

  143. I want to say THANK YOU for the 36 games I have on my hard drive from your site, and that is just counting the ones I kept! I would say that I have had at least 10 more games that I got to try out but didn’t care for so I deleted them. I would have never had that chance anywhere else! So, THANKS again and see you on Saturday!

  150. Someone I cant remember who, asked – could the end be near?

Someone else suggested that the info GGOTD is feeding us might even be b*llsh*t.

And yet another poster agreed with him.

Sounds to me as if this is something that lots of gamers here have been suspicious of recently – and I join the list.

    #Senior Citizen,

Do you need someone to lead you home dear? Or perhaps someone I should call for you? You sound so disoriented ….

It was #18 flattop who is disabled, not me sweetie. He was just agreeing with me. You poor old thing.

Look people, I’d love for this site to last. I’ve been here supporting it almost since its inception, which is probably a great deal longer than most of you here.

But like others I dont want to be fed garbage (words, not software) and be told to accept it just because Ive had the benefit of free software in the past.

I dont follow the herd. Be honest, be upfront and I’ll understand the problem, no matter what the deal happens to be.

There are many of us who havent said anything, that were pretty sure the games’ pot of gold was over, when they began all the repeats under the guise of doing it for the new people.

Come on. And you all fell for it.

Then they were going on holiday – and you all fell for it again.

Now they’re too busy and too understaffed to keep the games side up – and you’re falling for it again? LOL

I AM very appreciative for some of the games Ive saved from here and Ive let it be publicly known. But dont expect me to fawn all over “the team” when I see that their tongues have somewhat of a split in them.

  151. oh poo! somedays this site is the best thing in my day…oh well. is this about the mac project? did you find enough info? hopefully i was able to help, at least a little. if you need more sources i will keep looking. try not to go too crazy ( leave that to us.. ;) )

  152. if you haven’t checked http://www.download.com you might want to. search under mac. i didn’t go through the whole list , but they did have a largish number of mac applications and some games as well. a good many things are free. off to look more….

  153. Weekends are hard for me too – but have enjoyed so many new games – it has been wonderful. I have liked most of them, and gotten a few real gems along the way.

Will try to catch the weekends if husband will let me online. I get weekdays and he gets nights and weekend mostly.

  154. Just a suggestion to Salva and game give away of the day. I realize your having some type of issues. Very sorry to hear that, really I am. I to am just another greatful person that has been coming to this site daily now for just shy of a year and have got many free games and software on the flip side of this board. I commend you, Salva and your staff for I realize your jobs are not easy.
Having said that, I realize your trying to pick up I.T. personal for your team. I would strongly suggest even as busy and as crazy as things are their. I would add at least a game give away on Wednesday’s to kind of break things up and would also create a calm among people that come here daily.
In other words, if you were to hold a game give away on every Wednesday, I believe people would be much more understanding of games on weekends only until you have the proper staff.
So, I would ask you, Salva, could we please have a game on Wednesdays in addition to the weekends ?
Thanks for your consideration, Salva. I wouldn’t even mind if all the games were repeats and probably no one else here does either.
    Thanks again, Salva.

  155. Thank goodness! Here was I thinking I’d lost the site altogether.
I’ll miss the daily looksee but you can bet your boots I won’t miss out on the weekend games. Thank you for so many wonderful games….
I’m still working on Brickshooter Egypt….

  156. No daily games? You do realise that the absence of the daily game will have wide ranging effects, productivity will increase a hundredfold, my company will make money again, the stock-market will rise, the economy will recover, Gordon Brown will take the credit, Labour will win the next election…… You fools what have you done? We’re Doomed, Doomed I tell you………….

  157. We’ll all miss the games, but will probably ALL be here every weekend day!
Thanks for all you do, team!

Is this change too give time/attention to the new Mac giveaways?

Want a giggle, peeps? Count the complaints, then count the ones who complain about the complainers. It’s really cracking me up lately when I see all those who complain about complainers on here. Let’s all complain about those who complain about complainers! :) Good heavens! Giggle! I won’t miss any of that. :)

  158. Oh, it’s just a pity, but at least we have the weekends…
But one thing I want to say it’s that I complain sometimes because they make money with us. They are not giving games just for free. How? Well they have adverstiments in their pages, that’s the way. If they gave me rubbish, then I would complain.

  160. #147 Sherry…

If you start a thread in the forums on your problem maybe someone there will be able to help you. I don’t imagine you are going to find much help here in the comments on Slava’s announcememnt. It’s easy to do, just click on the forum link and post in the appropriate forum. If you don’t have an account you will have to sign up for one first, also easy. Good luck.

#150 gAmeLoVer (and others who have posted similar accusations)…

What gives you the right to call Slava or any of the Team a liar? To launch a personal attack on any of GOTD Team or be nasty with the other users here? I don’t care how long you have been coming here. That is ill mannered at best, and it is a whole lot worse than ill manners. So the team took what to an American is an extended vacation (I know in Europe the vacations given by companies are longer than they are in the US) and still managed to get some software up for the regular side of their site. What is that to you? That they chose not to use more of their VACATION to work on this site is THEIR choice. I found it laudable of them to put in that much effort. My husband takes along his laptop everywhere to work on his online site. To keep the users happy. Being able to have Internet access is a requirement for him to go on vacation. Without Internet he can not make sure the site is up and functioning. So Slava and the Team took a vacation and used a bit of their precious vacation to keep the main giveaway of the day site functioning. It was a sacrifice they made for their users. A commitment that shouts volumes if you would just take a moment to listen.

Why do so many people here “fawn all over the team”? Because they realize they are not entitled to any games or game site and that they are lucky to have been blessed with the effort and hard work of Slava and the Team and received any free games at all. What have you had to do to get those games you have gotten while the site was available 7 days a week? Come to the site, download them, activate and install them. And then play your bounty. It has been a gift. You haven’t worked for it. You haven’t given any money for it. Have you even volunteered to help with the site? But somehow it is ok to come here and slam the very people who are putting their money, efforts, talents, and heart and soul into this site. It does not speak well for you or any of the others here who are being so rude and mean.

Having the game giveaway site up is GOTD’s decision. At any time they could say “enough is enough” and take it down. It is very easy to do. I have flipped the switch on sites before, not difficult at all. My h would have closed down the game side of this site a long time ago over the crap people give this Team. And now you are calling them liars and questioning their motives? I am astounded at your sense of entitlement and lack of common decency and sense. If you have a problem with something Slava has said, then why not send Slava an email. That would be the adult way to handle your concerns, not call the owners of a site liars.

    Grow up.

Sorry about the manpower troubles you’ve got – it seems typical across the IT field, from the news I read – but you guys always do good work and have shown a great amount of dedication to the site and the users/visitors there-of. 173. Hi again Slava et al,

I posted my appreciation for your efforts a few days ago, but wanted to add my agreement to whoever it was that suggested setting things up differently …

Why not try the Friday & Saturday, or Sunday & Monday option rather than Saturday & Sunday. It doesn’t matter to me personally since I work from home most of the time, but I can see why it would probably ensure that the vast majority of your fans would have the chance to snaffle at least one new game a week.

Still, whatever your reasons for changing things, I applaud your efforts to continue to operate the site at all, never mind how many and which days a week your feel like doing it for!

  175. Why don’t you post the fresh games from the weekend and leave them posted until you post new ones. Gives the ones that can’t access the games on weekends the chance to get them as well the ones that may not be able to access for days. They may loose the software but at least the games will be accessible. Forgive me if this has be suggested. I didn’t notice the forum until today and just couldn’t go through 171 previous posts!!!

  177. Ambrosia, your post (#160) was 100% on target and accurate. As for those who “fawn” over the GOTD team, so what! Give a compliment when it’s due, and the GOTD team most certainly gets my gratitude. Sadly, some people find it easier to complain, make accusations, and attack others (”#150 gAmeLoVer”). To some people getting something FREE isn’t free enough.

    THANK YOU GOTD!

  178. JUST SOME THOUGHTS!

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.
If you don’t appreciate what you’ve got, you’ve got nothing.
Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.

    Greatly appreciated GOTD :)
    THANKS AS ALWAYS-GOD BLESS

I am grateful for whatever you have to share~ As for the whiners and complainers, GOTD, don’t worry. It’s human nature for it to be hard to make changes/make adjustments. After the smoke clears and things settle, everyone will adjust. They’ll remember the “good ‘ol days”….. As many others have said, thanks and keep on keeping on~

  180. I don’t download every single game but I enjoyed visiting everyday to check the games. Still playing a few that I really liked. I don’t download too much of the utility softwear because it gets to be too much of the same thing taking up space on the computer. Rather stick with something that works that I have already. Also download the screensavers.

Gee I have never come to this site one time and been ask for money for software, or even donation for your software. Sometimes web sites may have to end up asking their friendly posters/viewers to donate occasionally for one reason or another, cost, etc. But not here at GOTD/GGOTD, you have never ask me or others to donate or pay a nickel. I thank you for the TOTALLY FREE software, and plus all the hardwork, devotion and determination you put into your site!!
I hope things go well for you in your future plans!! Something good is surely going to come your way. 204. For #98:
For all the ungrateful people accusing them of a lot of bs (instead of coming out truthfully about their staff, game status & projects), it’s rather presumptive of all of you to assume you know the projects & responsibilities they’re working on… from projects & problems to personal issues. They could have had illness, deaths or hired numerous people to work on a whole new concept & website for all you know. You have no idea!

    For #104:
As to how this is profitable: developers are banking on the free product’s popularity to have the recipients spread the word and even visit their site to check-out other products; and the site probably charges the developers to give away their product, because of the exposure to their membership base, which also applies to the companies who advertise on their site too.

    For #122:
As to alternating a game & a program daily — they already give away a program a day on their sister site: giveawayoftheday.com

    For #….:
Anyone thinking a site like this, coupled with the sister site, is an easy plug-’n-play thing is greatly mistaken. Regardless if they’re “programming the games” or not, just imagine how much communication & negotiation’s needed to get developers to give away their product, twice a day — everyday of the year… plus running the business.

    For #160:
    Ditto! Ditto! Ditto! Ditto! Ditto!!!!!!

    And for the GOTDG Team:
Do what you have to do, rest if you need to and give yourself a pat on the back. Try to ignore all the whining & tantrum-throwing, recognizing it for what it is… a sign that you must be doing something right or they wouldn’t care at all.

  206. Maybe GGOTD should consider what #20 (Beckii) is offering regarding the daily game give away. If they are capable, and are willing, why not let them handle the daily game giveaway? It would be worth looking into.

Also, seems to me they have a great idea regarding a “graphic of the day”. I would certainly find it interesting. There is a great graphics/photo editing software called “Paint.NET” (PDN) that is absolutely free, and I have been using/learning this program for almost a year now and I have no prior experience in graphics, or photo editing software etc. but I love it, and the great things I have created with it.

I am sure many would love to show some of their art projects, graphics, or photos that they have created using using a program like PDN, (perhaps a “gallery” in the forums where we all can go and view) especially if they received it free from GGOTD.

This is merely a suggestion, an idea to play with…

  208. It would be really cool if we could have access to download the games for the week after the weekend they’re posted… :-) with sugar on top?
But I do appreciate them anyway! and my kids love them too. Thanks for all the free software and games, even the ones I can’t find a use for (someone else has a use, I have abslutely no doubt).
This site rocks and I keep telling people about it.
    THANKS!!!!!!!!

  209. i just stumbled upon your site 2 days ago… right after it was too late to download the Partition Manager software (a program i could’ve really used) but anyway,, i’d just like to thank you for establishing and maintaining such a site and i’d like to thank all the publishers who allow you to distribute thier software free of charge…

oh, yeah, i’m looking forward to a good game or 2 this weekend.. time to post this little rant and refresh the main page.. it’s 3AM Gmt-5

  210. i’ve just come across your site too which was recommended to me. You are obviously doing such great work judging by most of the comments that i’ve read ………. so it’s no wonder you’re on ‘work overload’ & you need to source out more skilled staff! Heaps of Good Luck with that & also all of your new projects. I look forward to being a regular visitor albiet only in the weekends at this stage

  211. I don’t know if this has been suggested yet, haven’t got the time to read all the posts.

How about the weekend games are available for the week instead of just the day? Or even 3 days, then a screensaver, then 3 more days of a different game? Maybe even Sundays for a screensaver, Mon, Tues, Wed for one game and Thurs, Fri, Sat for a second game?

I noticed some folks say they didn’t always get the chance to get in every single day and certainly not weekends when family tends to be the main priority.

I’m not a big games fan myself but I don’t see why the games fans should lose out. I’m sure this would help keep the games fans happier.

What do you think, games fans? Would that help?

  219. Thank you very, very much GOTD staff for all the thankless hours you put in and for all the free programs and games we have been given so far.

I will always be greatful to you whether you giveaway once a week or once a weekend.

Again thanks very much and look forward to whatever you find time to share with us.

  220. Who can really complain? You give us free games everyday and software. Where else is anyone going to find a place like that? Yes it is disappointing but get over it. I have you linked to my website as one of my favorites places. So keep up the good work. Most people appreciate what all of you do. Thanks again for all the hard work and free stuff.

  221. this is for all the complainers who are rude enough to be so hard on GAOTD project team……Don’t you think screaming about the the quality of a FREE game is going to get more or less free games? stop disrespecting their hard work or help them! I’m loyal to this site and might groan at the free game of the day but i Never have to worry about my kids with their games! To me that is the ultimate freebie i can get.
to you complainers help them not yell at them!

to the staff: Thank you for this site! the positive to it is only on the weekends is instead of cartoons this weekend my kids will be on stand by for your next release. if you need help with anything just holler.

  222. I am only a newbie, but I really appreciate this site
    thank you

  223. Thank you for your hard jobs in the past time. I really appreciate. Your announcement said the free game will be avilable on weekend only. I have missed chances to try free games in the past weeks. Today is the first time I believe I can download a new game, but I cannot because the free download was available on April 12 only. Maybe I misunderstood your announcement. I will catch it on time next week. Thanks.

  225. I sure hope there will be a crazy type of give away program that is very unusual. It seems as though till now, we are getting the best from GOTD Team. And are hoping for much much more!!!

  226. This site is great! i only watch for the free software not the games. the games to me are a waste of time. In that respect i agree with slava and his team, software is more important. all you gamers out there, how bout you guys grow up? I do agree with someone who posted that screensavers are a pointless/stupid giveaway. i am waiting to see more prominent software titles, such as poweriso, magiciso, etc. Some of the companies presented here are ones i have never heard of, i hope that will soon change. I’m betting once you get more prominent software titles/companies, you will get more visitors per day!

Thank You guys for all the hard work, you guys are great!

  227. get RTS games like SAGA i love those games =D

Comment by timmy — April 24th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
  228. That would be wonderful but would like the ability to down load the games on Monday when I get to work.
I would love to see Cubis available if you could soon.
I understand there is a new version available now.
    Thank you
    Have a wonderful week.
    Beck

  229. “i am waiting to see more prominent software titles, such as poweriso, magiciso, etc.”

Right….those are REAL software titles. They don’t need to give away a thing to get exposure. I would think they have to deal with enough “free-beez” on the p2p sites…:-)

  230. this news sux big time……..
    try making it daily asap…..

Comment by rajat — May 6th, 2008 at 2:51 am
  231. Thank you for running a brilliant service and website for everyone though!!! I think “giveawayofday” on the whole is one of the most unique and ground breaking sites for people on the web. Exposing them to software, games etc. they would probably never see if it wasn’t for the site & we get to use the software for free, to see what really works for us! Thank You!!!

  232. “we plan to go back to full online mode soon”

…Hmmmm. Three months later and still weekends only. You might want to work on how you define the term soon. Anyway, extremely disappointed…

Comment by Josh — June 18th, 2008 at 11:52 am
  233. 6 months….no updates. What are your people working on? In 6 months there should be SOMETHING new to show for it.
