New file hosting facility for Giveaway of the day files

Hello everyone,
As many of you already noticed, we migrated our downloadable files to Wikisend.com servers.

Wikisend is a new, free and simple file sharing service that is available Giveaway of the day visitors and other users alike:)

You are welcome to try this new service and let us know about things and features you`d like to improve at Wikisend. We would be glad to make this web service better, especially with your help.

Please notice that Wikisend requires cookies to be enable in your browsers. If you prefer download manager software, please make sure this software handles cookies correctly.

  1. Some hosting. I’ve been trying to download today’s file all day, and it has done nothing but time out….

  2. I did not encounter any problem whatsoever using Wikisend.com. In fact, I have already registered myself with the service and will start to upload some files to share with my friends. This service beats Rapidshare thumbs down. Thanks GAOTD.

  6. I have had no problems so far with Widisend.com. Also, with the old interface, I used to have problems using Orbit downloader, having to click the download button, cancel, and then click the download button again, in order to download the file correctly. I no longer experience that problem with Widisend.com.

  11. Anyone know where to find the download link for anything anymore? I cannot find the download link for the current GOTD Robbox. Any ideas?

Comment by Don — February 23rd, 2008 at 11:06 am
  12. It would be an alternative for downloading, using this service, in the event of problems with GOTD or if a user is having problems downloading for one reason or another. However, it would require that GOTD give the file ID required to download the file.

  14. My DAP 8.6 can not work since it always say “required password”. But I downloaded with default download from firefox browser, it does not require user name and password. But it is very slow and i need my DAP to work. Do you have any solutions? With my firefox, I missed Chess program which is 145MB. I still wait for it’s appearance again.

  18. I haven’t had any problems with downloading any of the software through Wikisend. Does just right – same as with previous server. :)

  19. In my case, it´s faster. I guess it depends from where you connect.

  20. To those having problems downloading- if you read above, you will see 2 people tried to download the PAST offerings from GOTD, NOT todays. You can only get the one for TODAY! If you open email or a saved page from here, you need to be sure it’s TODAYS date! Or click the GOTD logo at top to go to the TODAYS offering. ALSO, if it’s slow, it’s probably because many others are downloading it at the same time. Bandwidth & all that. It downloaded fine with dialup AND Free Download Manager. When installed it gives you a read me you need to copy before loading IF you check that box. THEN when it loads you need to give it a minute to SEEM like is loading, as it says it first does a “camera test”. Make sure you save the instaructions, as you won’t get them again, unless you reinstall it TODAY. So far it seems really nice, but I didn’t read the instructions totally & couldn’t make the ball go more than like 4 inchs. lol I came back here to see if anyone knew that answer before I have to now reinstall to see the instructions, SO DON”T make my mistake. :) Thanks GOTD & Maker! And Wikisend is great!:)

  22. I have no problem downloading from w1.wikisend.com/…. But when I try to download from w1.wikisend.com:8080 I get timed out or can’t find server errors. I was not able to download today’s game, extinction or the most recent chess game. I think it has something to do with the large file sizes.

  23. Thank’s GAOTD.

it seems good to me ,I’ve had no problems with this one not like the last server which many times seemed very erratic & troublesome at times.

  24. I love your site, however wikisend has done more harm than good. Thx to the person who left instructions about how to change things on your hard drive to nable download, however I along with others need other instuctions on what to do… Please update your site with somenew info for us so that we can continue to enjoy yor services!!!

  25. Your server seemed to be down a long time yesterday. I’m glad it’s back up again, but hope the absence doesn’t portend more problems.

  26. This new server isn’t that great- it’s really basic and slow compared to others. I’d reccomend MediaFire (http://www.mediafire.com), which is also free. I’ve had very good experiences. Aside from this minor quibble, thought, keep up the good work, GAOTD.

  27. Never had a problem with the new host. Downloads seem faster than the previous. May even use this new host myself to send files to friends/colleagues. Thanks GAOTD and keep up the good work (despite the odd negative comment)

    – real time transfer rate display
    – multiple file upload facility, preferably via flash
    – firefox fireuploader extension integration

  30. I usually have problems depending on the time of day I download the Giveaway.
Mostly it’s dial-up speed (and I’m on 4Mb Cable Broadband!)

Today’s giveaway download was’nt too bad coming down the wire at 189Kbps so perhaps things are settling down.

  31. Does exactly what it says on the tin!
Download page loads quickly. Downloaded at my full download speed (I am a few doors away from the exchange, so my 8MB connection actually is 8MB!). File hosted and served perfectly ( used five times now, with No Problems and no complaints at all!) Hurrah!

  33. Nice website folks, again!

  34. Hey #15 are you the same RICH that used to be in a sweepstakes group ages ago??? You always seemed to know all the answers there, too!! If it’s the same guy, so glad to see you’re still around.

  35. Mr Moderator:

The only problem I have with Wikisend is that it doesn’t show you a file details box of what files you can expect to see inside the download.

For example with Wikifortio the details box would indicate whether it was a single zip file to download or if there was an Activator program also inside the zip file or perhaps even a readme notice. It is very helpful to read the details so you don’t end up posting a reply like: I can’t get it to register etc.

I for one always save a copy of the GAotD details/reply posts page and also a copy of the Wikisend download page as both can be handy to refer too.

BUT, If those extra file contents details could be added onto the Wikisend download page details I for one would be a very happy person.

    ———-

Having said that I really appreciate the work and offerings that you folk keep making available.

  36. I have noticed much slower download speeds but I can’t be sure it is only on your end.

Comment by HOSS — March 17th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
  37. Well, tryed to download a few programs and the service ‘timed-out’??? I had to start again and that was very frustrating! Also, the downloads do seem slower than before, but that I can accept, but ‘time-out’ is not! Maybe this ‘new’ place can not handle all of the GAOTD traffic as well as it advertised? I’ll be patient and maybe have to start changing my download times – we will see …

Thanks for all your hard work offering free games and programs every day – well games on the weekend for now : ) Thanks.

  38. One thing you can improve with Wikisend.com is to STOP PLANTING COOKIES ON MY PC!

Comment by Brian — March 19th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
  39. I personally like the WikiSend better than WikiFortio. WikiSend has a more attractive user interface and, for some reason, has faster downloads. I don’t block cookies, so it didn’t have any difficulties, which was great:). The only problem is that it doesn’t give you in-depth file details. For example, at WikiFortio it showed you that the ZIP file contained “setup.exe,” “activate.exe,” and “readme.txt.” WikiSend doesn’t exactly do that, but that’s fine with me, because those are usually the only things in GAOD ZIP files (sometimes activate.exe is not there, though). Overall, I really like WikiSend, and I am glad GAOD switched.

  41. Unfortunately, WikiSend isn’t working very well for us in India…

  42. I am afraid I dont like wikisend either. always the files are corrupted and I have to download again, so I do it from your mirror site.

  43. well, the problem caused by corrupted files on wikisend is caused by download accelerators and download managing softwares. i used to have the same problem with zipped files downloaded but after i started using the normal way of mozilla firefox download manager, it works fine for me.

  44. No problems yet, good file sharingserver…

  45. after downloading the file, it says “unable to establish connection with giveawayoftheday.com” or something like that. what is wrong? cookies are enabled and all. i have been unable to install anything that i had downloaded. pls help!
