Wikifortio and file description problems – solved and fixed!

Hello everyone,
Yesterday we found out that our partner service, Wikifortio, had a security loophole that allowed hackers to change the description of the download and protect the download with the password. The downloadable file itself was not changed (the loophole doesn`t allow that). We switched to another download facility and eliminated the loophole.

We are sorry for this inconvenience and hope that we will avoid such a situation in future. Please notice that we never password-protect our downloads and will never do this in future.
Also, it`s absolutely impossible to change the file, so, as inconvenient as the situation was, the actual file was not threatened.

We will do our best to ensure that Giveaway of the Day stays safe and secure for its visitors, and we hope to see you again here tomorrow.

Update: well, some great news for all of us – Wikifortio problem was fixed AND tested – no loophole now. Also, we received an analysis report from the Wikifortio team and it seems that the loophole was in fact minor, just like we expected – there were no ways to change the file itself.
We will switch to Wikifortio tomorrow and Wikifortio team will monitor the downloads security to make our service safe for all our visitors.

Yours,
Slava and GAOTD team.

  1. Oh wonderful! I thought that I had majorly missed something and was afraid to post about it for fear of all the sneers that I expected to see so I stayed away. I am very glad that you got this fixed.

  5. If i download without using DAP(Download Acclerator Plus) then there is no problem for download, but if DAP is used it asks for a password before it starts downloading. I’ve checked it for 3-4 non-consecutive days.

  6. well yet another game going down the gurgler.followed all instuctions.on galaxy 2.it worked fine @ the begining, than shut down moments later came up in pause mode.have no idea howto fix it.also two other games i had recently downloaded.road to fantasy.all it did was shoot over to the syde and when i pressed ok or try and drag it too the centr all it could give me was a pathetic sqeak.no go.i mentioned to you also in one of my previous comments that i picked up a trojan dropper which i dealt with forthwith,i beleive that was on the halliboard.omg..i even havnt got the name right.so i had to heal thru my sytem.and uninstall.whilst i really appreciate what you are doing and also commend you for it.do screen or youre other partners to do likewise.as i would love to keep my computer free.of bugs and grubs.and am somewhat of a clean freak when it comes to my computer.however i know you try and do youre best .its only for my children who get such a boost to see a new game they can play when they come home from school kinda like an early xmas if you like.do keep up the work you are doing yet please if at all possible.ensure that the files we download are of any use to me or anyone else.tis not a gripe.just wanted to pass this along to you in a positive light.
