GOTD is back on-line!

Hello everybody,

we are aware of the situation with Giveaway of the Day site and are sorry for the inconvenience. Our domain record was supposed to auto-renew but failed for some reasons that have yet to be investigated.

Let us assure you domain has been successfully renewed, still the system needs time to get the site back on track.

For those users who still experience problems accessing GOTD, please stay on-line or try to reach us in several hours. We will finally be back! :)

Update: current History Explorer 2.2 is going to be available for 3 more hours. New giveaway will start as usually at 3:00 (UTC-4).

Have a nice day!

  1. I still cannot access the site except through a proxy….

  2. Still getting redirected at various point when trying to download. Oddly enough, this is only happening on my Win7-64 desktop but not my Win7-32 notebook. The notebook wirelessly connects to my router; the desktop uses an ethernet connection. The problems only occur on the desktop, and only on some giveawayoftheday.com pages — not all.

For example, http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/history-explorer-2-2/ is still blocked but http://www.giveawayoftheday.com is not. I downloaded and installed RipTiger, but the page that pops up following successful installation is blocked.

Any suggestions would be mighty welcome.

  3. If anybody else has the problems detailed in #47 try this:
open a command prompt window (CMD in run box)and type this:

    ipconfig /flushdns (and hit )

(assuming you get a successful completion message, now type this:)

    ipconfig /registerdns (and hit )

This may take a while, but then all the giveawayoftheday pages should load.

  4. Glad to see you’re back up. The whole site seems to be working fine for me without clearing caches or dns.

I don’t download many of your offerings but it’s a great resource and I check it daily, I have your widget included on my local home page so I never miss an offering.

  5. Wow, just barely download WinX DVD and activated. When I started to download the game, the site was gone. Glad to know that you’re back. Now just waiting for a release on a Partitioning Utility.

  6. I can’t download today’s giveaway, when trying to download, it takes me to a parked page saying the domain is expired…

  7. Still problems. :-(

  8. Do not use angle brackets in your comments!!! Anything between them will not appear. So, for clarity (in #48 above) add “ENTER” following the word “hit” — I’d put it in angle brackets, so it did not show up! Ho Ho Ho

  9. I am able to see your main page. However, when I go to your files.giveawayoftheday/riptiger page, it redirects me to the NIC webpage renewal expired page. I cleared my old cookies, no luck.

  10. Still cannot access your GAOTD site. I can get to the GGAOTD and to the blog site, but all I get for the main site is the parked page. I’ having withdrawal pains, please help….

  11. Please, list your ISP providers and DNS servers in replies here. This can help us resolve this issue. The domain has been expired for three hours only, two days ago, but some people are still having problems. We need help finding those ISPs who cached that result and still didn’t update the records.

  12. Welcome back —-Welcome back —-Welcome back —-Welcome back —-Welcome back —-Welcome back —-Welcome back —-Welcome back —-

    Really missed you.

  13. As Comment # 46, matt531320, indicated, you may be able to access the GOTD site through a proxy. I tried a few online proxies, but any that did bring up the site, I was unable to download the zip package with the Setup app in it. There should be proxy sites out there that do work for downloading the zip file though.

As for myself, since I am use the Firefox Browser, I eventually installed the “Tor-Proxy.NET Toolbar 0.3.3” Add-On for Firefox, and I was able to go the site and download the zip package with no problem. Here is the link for the Add-On:

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5833

So for those with Firefox, you can use that Tor-Proxy toolbar. As for those with Internet Explorer that do not have Firefox, you should be able to find a proxy out there that enables you to download the zip file, I don’t know for sure though; otherwise just download the Firefox browser and add Tor-Proxy after you get it up and running. Here is the link for downloading the Firefox Setup file:

    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US

If you do not want to incorporate Firefox into your system by a general install, then you can download Firefox in a completely portable fashion to the hard-drive or other device (just because it is portable does not mean you can only install it to a portable device). Then when you’re done using it, it will be a nice and clean delete…that is, if you don’t want to use it anymore. Anyway here is the link for Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition:

    http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable

…and here is a link for the same portable version for German:

    http://portableapps.com/de/apps/internet/firefox_portable

    I hope this has helped!

  14. Well, after I got done submitting my last comment, above, I had visited the GOTD site without a proxy and it is now accessible without a proxy. They must have done the fix while I was typing out my earlier message to this Blog.

Well, good…however, those of you without Firefox, go ahead and try it; the Add-Ons alone are definitely worth it! The links for downloading either the regular Setup or the Portable App are both shown in my previous message above.

  15. I downloaded Inca Ball and WinX DVD Ripper Platinum but when I tried to install them I couldn’t activate them as the site was down. Come on GAOTD be fair and allow everybody to finish this giveawayoftheday which was cut short not by us. I tried several times to connect yesterday but gave up in disgust and as a result also missed History Explorer 2.2 also ubfair. Not impressed.

  17. Glad to see you back online. Haven’t been able to access the site on the 1st or 2nd of November and only just been able to access it now.
Any chance you can repost RipTiger Full and History Explorer 2.2? It would be great if you could, cause I couldn’t get into the site at all when these were posted. Glad GOTD is back and not gone forever!!!

Comment by Matt — November 3rd, 2010 at 2:12 am
  18. To all those who are upset about not being able to download the program due to the site being down, I can understand your pain. But what you have to realize is at least we have an extraordinary site like this one, and shouldn’t really be upset because there is more free software to come. At least we have GotD.

  21. I agree with #58, (Glad to see you back online. Haven’t been able to access the site on the 1st or 2nd of November and only just been able to access it now. Any chance you can repost RipTiger Full) I was patiently waiting and hoping that it would be offered again. I love the program please see what you can do.

    Thanks!

  22. For 2 days neither myself or my friends whome I’d told them about GOTD, couldn’t get access to the website and when we can finally re-access GOTD we disover that GOTD didn’t offer to RE-RUN History Explorer v2.2 or Rip Tiger Full.

    Not very good

Judging from other comments I’m not the only one who isn’t happy about the poor performance of GOTD.

  23. I also wanted Rip Tiger Full but it was too late to get it after you were finally back on line. Wish you had a better way of notifying those of us that are notified daily of the giveaway for that day. I got your notices of the programs available but when I went to the site you were off-line and by the time I found out you were back on, it was too late.

  24. My typical time to check Giveawayoftheday is later in the evening. Unfortunately, this meant that I totally missed Rip Tiger, which is one that I’d have truly loved to have had. I’d been wondering if such software existed. Unfortunately, since all I got was a “This domain has expired page”, I’ll never know how well it works. The same thing happened on the 1st. (It finally let me into the main page, but the download page was down.) I realize you guys are saying it’s not your fault, but perhaps you could allow some extra time to download and activate the files that aren’t accessible?

  25. I wasn’t able to access your website normally until this morning (Nov. 3). I was able to download RipTiger, but not install it (I used the IP address instead of the site name). The install probably failed because it was trying to contact GOTD by name and I was still seeing redirection to DirectNIC until today. Now if I try to install, it says the offer expired. Is there any resolution for this or will I have to wait and see if it is offered again in the future? Thanks

  26. Hi, I have the same question as everybody else. Will the software be rerun? I wasn’t able to get the RipTiger full edition program and would really like to. Glad you back!

  27. Please repost RipTiger Full. I couldn’t get into the site at all when it was posted.

  28. GOTD is back online, yay. I missed two programs (History Explorer and Riptiger) that both look like something I might use.

    When will those be re-run?

Despite the date on this article, I was unable to access the site yesterday and went to a “domain expired” landing page.

Comment by Alex — November 3rd, 2010 at 10:02 am
  29. Ditto Matts #58 comment. Couldn’t access your site for two days and missed Rip Tiger.

  33. I really wanted to install – WinX DVD Ripper Platinum 6.0 – but, your site domain was not working. I tried many times and thought I might have had a re-direct virus or something.

Please email me when I can get “WinX DVD Ripper Platinum 6.0” and re-download and install it, as I’ve been waiting a very long time for this app on your site and don’t want to be “slighted” due to a technical glitch in the system.

    Thank you!

  34. Hi Guys,

Yesterday I downloaded Zentimo and went to the suggested webpage http://zentimo.com/req-gaotd-license.htm to register the program. I tried three times, but have not yet received any reply from Zentimo. What happens now? Will somebody let me know how I’ll be able to register this program?

    Thank you.

    Kind regards,

    Graham

  35. I just downloaded Aplus Screen Recorder but receive “failed to connect. Please try again later” message. Since I will be leaving the office in 1 hour, do I have an alternative method of installation?

  36. Hi GAOTD!!
So glad you are back on-line. I love coming here to try some of the interesting programs, and reading all the comments and suggestions.
Just couldn’t believe it when I was redirected to a domain site. Kept trying over and over again. Thought I had spyware or something on my computer that messed with the Hosts file.

You don’t know what you’ve got, till its gone!!

    Welcome back,
    Bennie
