Maintenance works at GOTD today, back online tomorrow

Is there a facility to suggest categories of software that you might offer? It seems there has been a rash of video conversion tools lately.

I fully agree with you sukibabe (#3) !
First, “maintenance days” are getting more and more numerous.
2nd : it’s more and more often that softwares are belated, and are published with one or two hours of delay.
3rd : GOTD softwares are no longer renewed, and except two or three exceptions, this site proposes video converters reruns.

Quite sad… :(

I cannot believe my ears. Someone goes to all the trouble to setup and maintain a super site like this and you have people grumbling and grousing about maintenance, repeats, too many of similar products (ie. format convertors) I for one am glad that the site may sometimes repeat offers or have a similiar type product. Since I am new to the site (less than a week) and I have missed the opportunity to get a copy the first time through. I would imagine that before a product is placed on the site, someone has to contact the software owner and convince them put their product up for free!

So quit complaining, no one is forcing Slava and his team to offer this site for us to use and benifit from sometime getting a really kewl and useful application. No one is forcing you to come back here every day to see what’s new and how it colud benefit us.

Weird how the maoners moan about the people in the REAL World that actually leave negative comments!
Those in the real world know there are freeware alternatives (Usually better than the programs given here!)
I’d guess it’s more of an “Is this GAOTD better than the freeware offered in the comments?”

Let’s face it, When did you last see a comment now saying “This was previously offered back in XXXX”?
Every day…Mmm…..

The point is, people would still get free software from elsewhere, Giveawayoftheday just helps by allowing comments so people can can post their freeware alternative.
All software here is a trial of sorts, As Hard Drives die and people change PC’s, Format their drives etc.

It’s not like their giving O.S away free or Office/Word, It’s only software that happens to be pay for on the net.
I class it as Shareware as graphics in the games are never has good as commercial games.
The appications more or less the same, We’ll never See Nero,Clone DVD, AnyDVD and other great programs for instance (but if GAOTD did, We’d get comments left with links to freeware versions which is good)

Even the Thumbs Up/Down does’nt really help on the site as people will vote thumbs down even if they have’nt tried the program as it’s not to their taste, Then go through comments clicking No on good comments and Yes on bad!

Thanks GAOTD for everything, besides the FREE stuff, which I check every single day, you give us info when “the kitchen is closed!” haha.
No really, I think I’m going to call this site,”Gravy of the day”, because just having somebody offer free stuff every day, if somebody visits this site and finds something they really like or need, then that’s “gravy”!

Used their software many years ago (more than a decade ago actually when I got my 1st CD burner), & hopefully this is a good program. A word of warning: they have this offer posted all over the web today, so getting thru to the site this morning was rough.

NTI states that despite offering this download thru their trial system, it is full-version. You have to supply name & email address to register, then they send you an email with download link and a code to use *just* to download.

Thanks GAOtD. I really appreciate the programs you offer. To the whiners, I say Sure, there are alot of programs offered that are similar to other programs. There’s not 365 different programs I’d want, so I have no problem wiht that. Some are useful, some are not (and feel free to ignore things you dont want. I sure do.) (but I like the screensavers–go figure) I appreciate when people post existence of free programs that are similar (big fan of http://www.sourceforge.net myself), and if they are better, great, but if not, I’m going to choose the “free, better” program.
I don’t know GAotD’s business model, but you can pass along that I’ve later purchased some of your programs for work when I found them helpful on the home PC.

Maybe not this time around, but hopefully some time soon, can GOTD during one of its maintenance days do something about the crazy thumbs up / thumbs down “voting” system?

It doesn’t do GOTD or its suppliers and users any good at all.

GAOTD has not been able to provide us with a good prog this day. This situation is called “Maintenance Day”. :-)

I can’t believe the negative comments on here about a service that offers free utilities. I check everyday almost and though it’s not every visit I see a utility I like or want I never moan about it. This site tries to cater everyone. People who like messing with videos, music, graphics, websites, PCs, etc.

So what if they do a few days of video converters? Someone may find the first offer not suitable but next one is. I’ve gone weeks of checking without getting anything I find useful, then one day there is that one program I’ve been waiting for all my life! (OK maybe an exaggeration but you get my point)

So I say thank you to Slava and the rest of the GAOTD team, especially the companies that offer the products to us.

To all the moaners……get a life! If the bank was to offer you money for free you’d probably want more!

I like your site. Check it every day. Some of the products I’ve found really useful. That’s for your work.

It’s agreed, people that want free and found this site for free full version (despite updates) complain constantly and start saying stuff like “GOTD will go down”. I laugh, since GOTD wastes time every day putting us full version software without the process of buying it to try it fully, eventually keep it forever (despite updates). You think it’s easy to find companies that agree to these methods? If you want to give negative comments, just go somewhere else, it’s either that or flare on a site just for being down. DEAL WITH IT!!!!!

OK – whiners or not, everyone’s got a right to an opinion and (in the U.S., most of the time) a right to express that opinion. Those who wish that negative commentors would go away would probably like to see anyone who disagrees have their mouths (or keyboards) taped off.

Come on people, this is probably one of the only give away sites that has a wide range of software for free. Quit complaining about everything, do any of you people know how hard it is to keep servers up and running all the time so we can benefit. I work for a computer assembling plant and we always use our servers to mass make a lot of the software, our servers always need maintenance. I don’t think people here know how good they have it.

You get to come to a website everyday for free, without having to create accounts or pay any member fees or download fees and heaps of the software I have actually downloaded have usually cost more than $50.00 USD. Now if you whine about the software, think about having to buy it yourself. You are getting great usefull software for free that usually costs more than 20 Bucks. There have been times when I have got software that costs more than $100.00, now they may have reruns of certain software, but think about all the people out there that use this site, possible many thousands even hundreds of thousands of people and they have the right to be able to get software for free that they may have missed the previous day, it’s not like they repeat it every week.

When I have seen reruns of same software, it has usually been more than a month. Now some software needs to be repeated, especially converting and burning programs. That way we don’t miss out on getting the items. Also for people like me who have had thier personal computers repaired on a frequent basis, can’t always save the software we have previously got, so seeing it again a month or 2 later, gives us the ability to get it again, or for the people who miss out by minutes of getting to the site and just miss the activation time.

This is a great site and we are lucky to know it is here. If you don’t like what they have for a day, then just move onto something else, no one here is forcing you to download every day. Also you can never have too many burning programs or converters as they are a great help and for those who haven’t used them, then this may get your attention. Altough many converters and burning programs have heaps of features, there may be things that the software doesn’t have that another free program here has, so if you do get alot of the downloads even if they are numerous of similar programs, then use it and try it and see if you like it or could use it then remove it if not.

They are providing a great free range of software that always costs money, and you get it free without any hassles, so stop whining and just look on the next day if you don’t like what they have on one day. Also don’t whine about the maintenance, as every descent website that people reguly go to like this GAOTD site always needs work done on it some time and making a particular day to do it, doesn’t always help, things can happen at any time, even the next day after they fixed something. Be happy with what they offer you as you wouldn’t get it anywhere else for free unless it’s illegal. So get over it.

Err, Why are you here supporting a FREE site and wetting yourselves because of maintainence?

Once again THE SOFTWARE IS’NT FREE If you format, change computer or whatever reason something goes wrong with your PC you cannot re-install it without paying or waiting for a repeat offering!

Point is, I’d call it *long-term trialware for those who don’t have a PC that’s invunerable*
How many put down the warez sites by saying “Ah those have got a virus and spyware”…Depends where you go and even GAOTD has been prone to the odd virus by accident.
The old addage comes in *You don’t get owt for nowt these days* ring true.
I’ll not mention the whingers who have an over expensive O.S like Vista then complain cheapo programs don’t work on it.

GAOTD serves a purpose which gives people a chance to TRY OUT software for as long as their Hard Drive holds up…Then hopefully gives it again a few months later.

Oh, If the site is down for maintainence…How are we leaving comments on a site that’s down??

Heh, even those who complaint about the whiners don’t want no more converters! Well, I don’t have any use for these converters too (I use freeware and GPL) but I don’t mind really. I think it gives us an opportunity to tell the DEVELOPERS (not GAOTD!) that there’s too much of a type of software – go build something else and maybe the market will buy.
As for GAOTD, how do you people make money? I won’t mind if you put up extra adverts around here a bit… I mean, I’d click them just out of gratitude for the hundreds of dollars worth of free software I get – more than I ever bought in 5 years, in just a few months.
In fact, if the offerings are more varied and of high quality, heck, I’d even pay a minimal membership fee if that’s what it takes to keep you guys afloat!

Whatever the reason it was down, just stop complaining. People won’t be happy to see GAOTD shut down just because they are tired of whinners. Find alternatives or better yet, just buy the products you find interesting until another product is displayed for download. Just drop the complain, what a waste of typing just to say enough already.

Game Giveaways are for weekends only. So you dont have to check “game.giveawayoftheday.com” every day, just check on weekends, and you’ll surely get a free game.

The code I did put into my website doesn’t work today.

Thank you for keeping us posted about the maintenance Slava, and thank you for a great site. I have had the chance to download and try many programs for free. Some have been deleted after a short while but many I still have saving me loads of readies!

And if you are having a break, so what, we are all entitled to a break now and again. I hope you are having a good time.

And again I will repeat. By all means leave valid comments about programs – good and bad. That’s what the site is for and developers do read the comments – some have even started appearing on the comments to help and guide and thank.

If you don’t like what’s on offer come back tomorrow or try and find an alternative site or just download the trial software you want from the developer and pay for it if you like it!

All I can say is thank you for the free programs GOTD.
Maybe they are many programs the same but nobody is telling you to visit this site anyway.
If you can make a program that never has seen before, go ahead.
If you can do better, why dont you start a site on your own?
