  1. As I beta test for a living I will be skipping this kind offer. On my PC I prefer software that works 99.9% of the time. I am very harsh on software you give away that have obviously not been tested well.

  2. @Corek – You lost me completely there…

    1. You Beta test for a living ?
    2. You skip this offer, coz you know, before testing it, that it don´t work 99.9% of the time.
    3. You claim that because its a give away then its not been tested well.

    Okay…?!? Well…

I could understand your big concern if:

    1. you are a omega or zenith tester
    2. the todays software is a closed beta version, coz then they was trying to skip the payed beta testers.
    3. even very high priced alpha, beta, gamma, omega & zenith tested software has a lower % that your prefered 99.9%

Example: Microsoft Windows OS versions from the first to the last…

With other words: Even the OS is far away from the 99.9% (lets say its 99.8%), so how do you dare to verify any beta software and then tell us, the buyers, that this software works 99.9%, or more, of the time ?

    When (99.8% + 99.9%) / 2 = average work time 99.85% !!!
Not to talk about the different kind of hardware that can interupt the beta tester, because there is a unknown bug on your hardware until this beta program was installed !

    ==============================================================

A bit testy, sounds as if you are. Beta testing the simple (for the most part) utilities that GAOTD makes available is always quite simple, never time consuming. GAOTD has made available some interesting utilities. I doubt that you “beta test for a living…I prefer software that works 99.9% of the time. I am very harsh on software…blah, blah, blah…”

I’ve been a professional, private/freelance IT and CIO trainer for over 40 years, as well as a programmer in binary, assembly, C & C++, helping various size companies (including some Fortune 1000 enterprises) and testing software is part of the job (I question those who say they do it for a living, all by itself). After getting to know exactly what a customer’s needs will be, I then give them a presentation of the programs I recommend, as well as any additional hardware/peripherals they have overlooked; this also includes demoing most. Anyone saying they prefer “testing” software that works 99.9% of the time, doesn’t know what real testing requires, much less whether it be alpha, beta, etc. You do everyone you run across a disservice with that kind of phony baloney, since you really do no “testing” when those products are operating at 99.9%, which means they are already stable…at least you think they are. I haven’t run across a single program/utility that didn’t have a major problem or two crop up at odd times, no matter how good they may have been for so many years.

Give yourself a break and expand your knowledge, as testing of most any software is a simple task, taking little time. You should be testing in a virtual environment and when done, merely return it to its pre-test state; this also means you have rock-solid security, and are using undelete software that knows where each and every bit of junk left over is and can eliminate it, both on any drive and the entire registry. Or, having an ISO of a clean system that’s at the point just prior to testing, makes things much easier. cu

  4. Your comment makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever!

If you do in fact beta test software for a living, then you would know that beta software NEVER runs 99.9% of the time.

If you were perfectly honest you would also know that NO released software program in the world runs 99.9% of the time.

Thus your comment about the quality of the software given away here is obviously null and void.

  5. isn’t that a contradiction? You are a beta tester for a living and you only want software that works 99.9 %? hmmm… sounds to me you are a RC tester :)

  6. Actually – there is a slight discrepency with your comment there Fred. It does run, it just doesn’t run very well.

  8. Just got it up and running, thank you GOTD! Win7-64 put on USB, and it works great. Nice GUI, and quality options for 256 & 320bps. I have been using radioshure usually gets max 128bps, this one may replace it for me. Good search and genere choices. Good job to the developers, and GOTD.

  9. The poster was very clear that this was BETA and assumes you understand what it means. If you have a test or VM machine, GAotD could use your “harsh” testing to help the Developer succeed.

Please, take a moment and consider your comments and your conscious. GAotD is here to help Developer determine how useful and robust their products are while at the same time provide to us members the benefit of a free copy of their program, in return for our words of wisdom.

Of course there are times when the software doesn’t work right. It may be the reason that it was submitted to GAotD. Although you are right in believing that the software should be robust before submitting it to GAotD for testing, that doesn’t always happen. There are times it seems that we get BETA (or even worse, ALPHA) products for testing instead of GA (General Available) or RTM (Release to Market) versions. It is frustrating when it occurs, but GAotD still needs us to comment on the software, with clear details and steps to reproduce.

Developers need us to tell them what is working, what is not, what we like, what we don’t, and suggestions on improving their product. How else are they to succeed? It is our responsibility to use a TEST computer or a Virtual Machine to run these test on first as no one’s software is 100% bug free.

As to why we end up with what seems like ALPHA apps, only GAotD team knows.

  10. Beta testing? a good way to ensure your system will not be compromised is with a program named RestoreIT 7 from Farstone.
If I’m correct It was a giveaway program at one time also.
I have not had a failed reboot since I installed this program, if one of the other programs compromises my pc it take a system snapshot on daily basis and it will be the way it was when to reboot if something happens.
Of course this works in a AMD 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate operating system.
