Registration problem that hit some of Aimersoft DVD Ripper users - solution incoming

DVD Ripper solution will most probably be ready on Monday, please don’t worry, you WILL get your chance to receive fully functional version if you were affected by the registration problem.

UPDATE: we received a fixed version of the DVD Ripper now, and it will be online this week, we just need to run a few tests to make sure everything runs ok.

Slava,

  4. I am so glad you are fixing this issue. I have told so many people about your site that I was personally mortified to find this software unregistered itself overnight! I visit this site regularly (daily) and have been very pleased with some of the offerings.

  10. I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one with the registration problem. Yesterday, my registration worked fine. However, today when I tried to use it, I’m getting the message that I have an unregistered copy. Looking forward to the upcoming solution. I’ve been waiting a long time for a software such as this and I was extremely happy when it was offered yesterday. Imagine my dissapointment today when I saw that my copy is showing unregistered.

How will the solution be posted? Will it be posted on the site or will we be informed by email? Whatever the case, thank you very much for looking into the problem. Keep up the good work. I enjoy visiting your site everyday and I’m extremely thankful for the give aways.

  11. I ithink the popularity of this software is well demonstrated by our complaints about the registration issues.

I am in the same boat as comment #3. I thought that i must have stuffed up the registration somehow so i uninstalled it from my machine. Am i going to be able to reinstall it on monday. sorry for being so pushy, however i have a few disks that i want to rip, so i need to know whether to find an alternative or wait till monday.

    thanks

  34. This DVD ripper is nice but it unregistred itself the next day. I have been using this site since January so I know how to activate. I noticed there was a second release of the exe and that was the one I downloaded.

    It said it activated.

I hope you can fix this as this seems to be one of the better rippers you have offered as it seems to be able to rip to a lot of different formats.

  63. Found your site and saw that you gave away Aimersoft DVD Ripper. Great! Downloaded the file and tried to activate it by starting activate.exe, but the programme could not reach your site and gave an error message. Tried it again later, but the same problem cropped up. Your site was `off the air’. I really wanted this program so I tried again later, but the problem persisted. Waited a few hours for your site to come back online and tried to activate again, could reach the site this time, but got the message that the time in which to activate had expired! A big disappointment, to say the least. Now I see that lots of other people had problems too, albeit a little different from mine. What gives? And is there a solution? Thanks.

  66. In all honesty, I did not download the software, but I wish I had because I’m having trouble with my optical drive.

Is there any chance I’ll be able to d/l it on Monday?

Comment by Ron Wells — May 26th, 2007 at 4:06 pm
  67. I wrote to Aimersoft. They answered!

I can’t find the email at this second, but they encouraged me to get everyone I know to download the update.

I suspect that means it will be the full download and activation key again. I just hope registartion doesn’t come crashing down at a later date.

One thing about these programs on GAOTD, lots of them seem to like to phone home. I block the first few attempts to see if the program is destabilized by not phoning home, and if the program remains stable, I make the block permanent.

If the program continues to want to phone home and it destabilizes the program to block that, I write to the publisher asking why the program needs to phone home. If they can not give me a great answer - the program is gone. If it is to check for updates, that needs to be something the user can configure without destabilizing the program. There is no other legitimate reason for ANY program to phone home.

I am a video pro, so I have stuff most of you don’t know about that no DVD, tape, Blue Ray, whatever can withstand, no matter what kind of encryption they use.

While this little DVD Ripper was nowhere near that powerful, for most video beginners, and even pros who want a smaller, faster loading program, I relly like this one.

Despite the one registration faux pas (the drift of the email I got from Aimersoft indicates that they misread the GAOTD policies - they were quite apologetic), I am recommending that people actually pay for this one, to ensure they get tech service and updates and support the good work of the Aimersoft folk.

Two thumbs up for this one.

  84. So you have received a fixed version and you just need to run some tests. I am a very forgetful person and I would appreciate it if you could provide a link on the main page of GAOTD to the fixed version after you are satisfied that the version is ok. 92. In the header above GOATD says to have the next opportunity on line next week. Is there any news when exactly? Do we get an e mail saying it is on line or how does this work. It did not work in the first place, I have been tracking this site since but I hear radio silence.

    John

  93. I downloaded it and used it that day and it worked great.
I then deleted the files that I downloaded.
I tried again today with no luck, so I checked the webpage and found this stream. I would also like to know how this [fix] will be available to those that have downloaded and had issues. I’m not complaining much because it’s FREE, so I guess I’ll just keep on checking this stream until a fix is in place.

    John (Not #92)

  94. I downloaded the DVD Ripper (the first one) and I’ve been trying to figure out if it can be used to copy an original dvd to another dvd and if so, How? It would be nice to have a copied dvd to take along in the car to use with a portable dvd player. Especially with children in the car.

    Thanks,

    Teri

You can use DVD Shrink for that. It’s free, and you don’t have to burn the images onto DVDs (burn them into CDs). Google it :)

  98. Aimersoft DVD Ripper is posted again. Hopefully it works this time.

  99. How can I tell if my software is registered? I didn’t get any registration key when I installed it and I am not getting a registration pop-up when I start the software. I select “register” in the menu bar to see if it will tell me that is already registered, but it asks for e-mail and registration key. I look in “about” to see if it says anything there, but nothing. Am I registered if I don’t get any messages when I start the software?

  114. I have the same problem as Chester - I did not get a GOTD email yesterday, and now today it shows it as yesterdays.

  115. Too bad =( i wasn’t able to download the re-run yesterday, is there any way i can have a copy of it? =(

Comment by Ann — May 31st, 2007 at 10:45 am
  116. I also did not receive notification of this re-post until the day AFTER the offer was made. And yes, I downloaded & installed the software on time during the original give-away period, but it does not appear to be registered — even though I correctly followed the instructions. Am I out of luck too now because your e-mail went AWOL?

  117. I had the same problem than Chester Williams. I missed the DVD ripper rerun because I didn’t get the mail in time.

  118. Kept checking in for DVDRip update but nothing on Monday or Tuesday, now it appears that it slid in on Wednesday and I missed it.

Comment by Lee — May 31st, 2007 at 1:23 pm
  119. I missed it too. Can you just give us a link rather than a rerun or email us to let us know when the rerun will be available?

Comment by Tony — June 1st, 2007 at 12:21 pm
  120. yes i have the old one and it did not work i would like the new working one too … please put it up again

  121. Same problem…checked everyday for the fix to be posted, went out of town for one day and missed the rerun. That sucks.

Comment by moonseal — June 1st, 2007 at 2:41 pm
  122. I didn’t get the notification until the day after it was rerun. When I got to the page, I was told that it had already ended. Is it still possible for me to get the giveaway?

Comment by Primal — June 2nd, 2007 at 3:23 am

Comment by Brad — June 2nd, 2007 at 8:12 pm
  125. Same thing here, installed and it was working, and now I need that update which I missed. Can anyone explain how to get it now?

Comment by RocketGeek — June 3rd, 2007 at 10:24 am
  126. Same here. Checked every day, saw the promise of a solution by monday. Checked monday, “still checking”. Checked tuesday, “still checking”. Spent all of wednesday working on the presentation for my paper at the SPIE meeting in Ottawa, where I am now, and never even connected to the internet. Now i find the solution was another one-day deal, and I’m out again.

I suppose “such is life”, but it would be nice if the hours I wasted trying to get that one program to work had some recompense.

Comment by onlyocelot — June 3rd, 2007 at 12:59 pm
  127. Oh, and just for completeness, I never received an email notification at all, even though I did leave my email. It’s required to post, after all.

Comment by onlyocelot — June 3rd, 2007 at 1:01 pm
  128. Sign me up for the fix. I missed the rerun cause the posting said it would be out on Monday - found nothing. On Tuesday there was nothing & I gave up… and I can’t believe it came out on Wed. Come on guys, Email us or rerun it with correct dates this time.

  131. I just noticed that my copy became unregistered as well. what is the solution?

  132. I need the update, AND it would seem that my prior request disappeared.

Comment by Jim — June 6th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
  133. The re-release was handled poorly. I also checked daily and the message “please don’t worry, you WILL get your chance to receive fully functional version if you were affected by the registration problem” made me believe there would be a link that the users who initially downloaded the software could receive a patch to repair the problem. It would have been very simple to post the message that it would be available for download for 24hrs just as before and let this announcement run for a few days. It never occurred to me that my chance to get the fully fuctional software would be done like it was, and it looks like I was not the only one!

  134. I’m anxious to get the registration fix also.

Comment by Max — June 7th, 2007 at 6:41 pm
  135. Any news on this issue? I am anxious to use the software.

  136. I think its trick with out serial number and anything just run Active.exe I think something wrong , There is nothing Free in the world, I was a great stupid I download and install the software , I hope it will be great , but is not FAKE FAKE and what the hack is Active EXE ? I think thats Trojan to get our personal info I give up no more free software when I will have my own credit card I will buy my own

  137. Maybe it’s pointless to post to this Forum, since GAOTD doesn’t seem to be reading or answering us on how they might accomodate those of us who missed the remedy, but here goes again (one last time):

Can you please either give us sufficient advance warning of when the fix will be posted OR, since you have our email addresses, can you email us the solution or a link to a new download?

    Thanks,

    Tony

  138. Since so many were caught by this activation problem, and some did not realise it until AFTER it was re-released, would not have been wiser to post a patch to correct the problem rather than re-releasing the whole program. I feel that a patch should be realised to solve this problem for those of us who have not removed it from our computers yet to get what they deserve. Also GAOD’s promise would be honoured that whoever downloaded on the day will get a working program.
    Many thanks.

  139. Hi all,
I contacted aimersoft, and they told me that there was nothing they could do about this issue of the first version not working. However, they did ask that I request from Giveawayoftheday.com to allow them to post the software for a third time. So, they are willing to do this it sounds like. If all the bugs are worked out, I know I would really enjoy a working copy of this software, or at least a different, good-working DVD ripper. I hope this gets answered.

    Thanks,
    Kurt

  140. oooooo maybe i should have actually read the thread before i got excited.
I noticed my problem after the day of the rerelease…. any plans to help us out?

  141. Hey I just went to go actually use this program for the first time since i downloaded it and I thought registered it, I was very disappointed to find it unregistered itself or the registration never worked. Is there anyway to atleast give those of us who downloaded already from your site an ability to register again. A third run of this great program would really be appreciated.

Comment by mike — June 20th, 2007 at 1:29 am
  142. I agree with #141. Finally went back to use this program for the 1st time and to my dismay it is NOT registered even though I thought it was (when I first registered I rean it and it said it was registered by never ripped anything).

Definitely a 3rd running would be cool! Keep up the good work

Comment by gregg — July 5th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
  143. registration problem is not a problem for me i have always had great programs work with no problems this is just a small stumbling block in comparison to all the free software thank you so much IO !

  144. I agree that a third run would be great… i downloaded the first time and registered and ripped one movie without any problems…. went back to do some more a couple of days later and it said it wasn’t registered.. i missed the second go around. even just a way to re register would be nice..

  145. Is a fix still expected for this, or did I miss it?

Comment by cb — July 24th, 2007 at 9:02 am
  146. What is the point of keeping this blog open if no solution is going to be forthcoming? Either re-issue the program or kill the blog — otherwise, this is pointless.

Comment by tony — July 25th, 2007 at 8:28 am
  147. well after reading all of the above, i think i’ll join the list cos i’ve got the same problem and i really hope that GOTD sort it out soon for us all. Only got to use it briefly once (the day i installed it) LOL Oh well, fingers crossed and hope for the registration fix to come soon. But i really love this website! Its so generous of GOTD to give free software away every day to us all. I tell everyone about this site!

  148. I brought this junk, and i got a few sound problems, and somtimes the picture disappear in movies. Only happens when “clicking” though, so if your going to rip anything with this junk, be warned!

I cant say im demanding to much, but movies you rip should be “clickable” without sound, and picture disappering. Btw, where is the forum for this software where we can talk about bugs etc?

For now, i’ll just have to re-encode everything i rip.. So in short, the only usefull about this program is the “trim fature”.
