Game Giveaway site - weekends only for now

Hello everyone!

Today`s news is Game Giveaway change. This part of our website will only be active during weekends starting this week.

I know that`s a sad news for game fans, and we plan to go back to full online mode soon, but for now we need our team to concentrate on some new projects and tasks and we were limited on programmers and sysadmins since the beginning of this website, so hiring new guys is only a theoretical option - in fact, IT has been a seller`s market here for three years already and situation seems to be getting worse - skilled people are scarce.

So, to sum it up - if we want to add something new - we need use our existing resources and prioritize.

Anyway, I`ll try to surprise you with 2 great games for this weekend:)

New file hosting facility for Giveaway of the day files

Monday morning news and questions - Giveaway@Mac? Can we do that?

Hello everyone,
Today I have some news for you and also I`m going to ask for help.

Well, Giveaway of the Day has been around for quite some time, and all this time we had emails coming and coming. Some of those emails were asking if there if we have plans to offer Mac OS-based version of our service and TBH we had none.
Mac OS X is a completely different world for us, and difficulties of starting Mac Giveaway of the Day were (and still are) significant, that`s why we tried to stick to Windows family.
Well, those emails kept coming and finally we decided to give the idea of Giveaway@Mac a second thought.

What does that mean? Basically, we will try and start this Mac version, but it will be a bit different from our regular versions. First of all, we would really need community help. You see, we can code the whole activation system anew, we can design a few additional pages and we can buy a few Macs (already did, actually), but that`s not going to be a Mac version of GAOTD but rather some frame for it.

What we lack at the moment and what we need help with is a Mac community here -both visitors and developers. We do not have contacts in the Mac world, so that`s someting I`m going to ask: do you have those? Do you know someone that uses Mac and could be interested in visiting our website? If yes, let him/her know.
Do you know a company or a developer that makes software for Mac OS? If yes, let him/her/them know about us.
We actually do check our software submit form, and we look thru our email boxes overloaded just like us.

Please also note that this Mac version won`t be Mac Giveaway of the Day immediately, let`s be realistic here: it`ll be Mac Giveaway of the Week then Mac Giveaway of the half-Week then Mac Giveaway of a few days…

StarBurn Shark rerun - Firefox problem fixed in this release

Hello everyone,
Today we will have two giveaways, one of which will be StarBurn`s rerun, this time with fixed bug that affected some Firefox users. Both we and StarBurn`s team hope that it will help our visitors.

StarBurn+FireFox default page bug - quick fix from StarBurn team

This is how you can quickly get rid of the problem:
Delete the file user.js which can be found there:
“[Drive Name]:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[SomeChars].default\user.js”

Path Example:
“C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\5kgurte6.default\user.js”

Monday maintenance

Hello everyone,
Today we will have a 1 day maintenance that will let us prepare the website to successfully spend year 2008 with you.
We hope to present new software titles and new games and meet new friends in 2008, as well as see our old friends here in a new year of Giveaway of the Day.

Performance problems and server migration

Hello everyone,
Our software is in the process of migration, we are changing servers to combat performance problems that hit us during the last few days. Our game server may be down today, as we need to move the Game Giveaway to a new hardware. Giveaway itself will be live during same migration process, though some slowdowns should be expected.

We are sorry for the inconvenience but current servers` performance left us no choice but go with the migration ASAP.

Update: It looks like some of the user comments might be lost due to the migration process.
