How to get the software you want from GOTD (Infographics)
GOTD has proved to be a good way to get paid software for free (with no cracks, embedded viruses, ads or other sleazy stuff), hasn’t it? But we can always achieve new heights with a little bit of help from our friends (and here we mean all our users).

More vendors might be interested in giving away software here if users did not give thumbs down just because they personally weren’t interested in that kind of software.
The voting system needs to be revamped to show why the person is giving a thumbs down.
The way it is now, it would be better if there were no thumbs up or down at all because it is completely misleading to vendors and people interested in the software. Does thumbs down mean its bad software, or does it simply mean “I don’t want it”?
Hi, I want to leave a suggestion… I think it would be very useful if you could make an index of all the software given. It would be so much easier to find anything we’re looking for.

I agree with BrendaG4, maybe there could be a third button saying not interested at this time. Just a thought.
Gaotd please giveaway aurora Blu Ray disc media player again. I lost this program when I upgraded to a new computer. this program was given out last year so it should be about time for it to be released again. thank you for handling this matter.
How about :
“This software is good and I use it”,
“this software is good but I don’t want it”,
“this software is bad”,
“I don’t know whether it’s good or bad because I didn’t download it”
and
“I don’t know what this does so I’m avoiding it”?
Choices, not a single meaningless binary decision.
Or is that too difficult to implement?

at least then people can give it a low rating for interest and not the program itself.
Would LOVE To have another shot at getting Perfect365 which has multiple face recognition. A basic version is available on iPad and iPhone, but when I upgraded to a new computer, I lost the gieveawy I’d been using for some time now. I know newer versions allow you to work on multiple faces. I love and appreciate this type of software.
I agree with Anita N. A third button would be awesome, and would allow users to ‘expel’ their angst without negatively affecting a product’s standing. *Thumbs Up* :D
Thumbs up thumbs down doesn’t tell me anything. It’s become passe on the web.
Anita, if they’re not interested then they need to shush. I don’t care what non wood savvy housewives think of a carpentry book but some female carpenter’s union is a group I’d love to hear from. If someone takes the time to write their opinion rather than just a click, this should help weed out some of the grrr people.
I’ve been coming here for years and get almost angry at some of the ungratefulness of users here. Due to software companies’ generosity, we now have some spoiled brats.
I think the whole of the community here is great and the yucks just need to be weeded out. If so, some of the feedback can likely be invaluable to these developers.
I agree – maybe a 3 way vote such as – LIKE – don’t care – dislike might help.
But there will always be those personalities that find delight in creating chaos and negativity. They will still vote dislike even though they don’t care. Why do they do it? Creating chaos and negativity is easy to do and gets a result fast. Creating a result of any kind – even negative – makes these dark souls seem empowered. So I think it is important for the software developers who make use of GAOTD to understand that a disproportionate amount of negative comments will be generated by this small group.
The reality is that many people will use and like the offered software. But they are not driven to post a positive note in the way that the chaos creators are driven to create controversy and negativity. So they don’t post. And this is the bulk of the users who just don’t feel the driving need to post a ‘good’ rating.
So, developers – please don’t get discouraged because just one of these dark souls can create quite a bit of chaos AND their behavior is not representative of reality. Don’t let all of the negativity get to you.

I was using Microsoft Picture It, but the same is not working in higher versions of Windows (7,8 Etc). Is there any program similar to this which can replace Microsoft Picture It. I have tried Photoscape, inkscape, GIMP Etc, but it is not as simple to use as Microsoft Picture It.
Please provide any similar softwares

I would love to see Movie Magic Screenwriter 6 (since 7 will be out in Jan) on here! That would be fabulous. As for the thumbs up down, I have to agree you need a free flow box to justify your rating or lack of.
I was interested in file sorting software. Do we have anything like that here ? Organizers !
Such as software for our movies that look like a library on a virtual shelf. Something like “All My Movies” and something similar for our Music and Pics.

1. About the rating, kindly put some more interactive measures instead of the Thumbs UP & DOWN. I agree that a few people never worried about it. But most of the visitors view it as the first opinion of other visitors. Very rarely even the thumbs down justified the total rating also.
2. A live chat section with the Developer, if possible, may generate more sale.
I love GATD and so I’m very happy with you. Please trow those thumbs up or down away because what someone likes or dislikes or expect is so personnely.
I hope you will post the iwisoft SWF to video converter. I tried out the trial version and it’s user friendly and the results are awsome.
Sadly the trial version adds a watermark in the screen.

Thumb UP and Thumb DOWN is inadequate. Maybe consider putting the Thumb UP and Thumb DOWN next to a person’s opinion. By putting it up on the top GOTD could be doing a dis-service to the developer.
If someone has tried the software and has an opinion, the opinion is enough. When I open GOTD and see more DOWN than UP I often look no further. Or, if’s something I might be interested in I read the opinions. Have never understood how there could be so many UPs and DOWNs when the software was ‘advertised’ only a few hours. …

After reading this coments, i must agree and say that i also would apreciate more a 5 votes kind of scheme… Something like this: Good / Normal / Bad + Use or like it / Don’t use or don’t like it.
Only those who voted on “Use or like it” would have access to “Good / Normal / Bad”
Also i think it would be more usefull, apreciated, and even work as incentive for download if people could have access to votes during the period for downloading, in order to make it more atractive (or not) to those persons that would not know that software, or aren’t shure if it could be usefull in future for downloading.
However, although i am not a very active member, i would like to thanks GOTD for sharing software all this time for free. This is a VERY USEFULL SERVICE YOU ARE PROVIDING – THANKS A LOT!!!

We haven’t had WinX DVD Copy Pro for a long time, and would be great to have the latest version. I also use the DVD Ripper.
I would really appreciate getting Aimersoft DRM Media Converter. I hear it was on GAOTD a long time ago, but sadly I missed it.

Unless I just haven’t found it yet, there needs to be a searchable index of past offerings. I like reading people’s reviews of the software, and I have purchased offerings based on the community feedback. When I need a particular piece of software, this would be my first stop.
Vendors, would you not love this as well? Long after the freebie period ends, your one-day giveaways can still draw people in!
I also agree that GOTD needs to revise their voting system. KISS, but vickyw222 has a good idea for starters, but make it 1-4 stars. Force people to choose up or down, not be wishy-washy in the middle.

I note with interest that people in general will be quick to criticize a product if it is not to their liking. It is very easy to refuse the product, and offer objective and constructive comments.
I have a number of products that I would like repeated, but the main ones are NXpowerlite, Wondershare timefreeze, ppt reducer, and winutilities (whew, this is like a grocery list…!). There are many other products that would like, but I will save that list for the future. Best wishes to the team for 2014.

A number of us have been unable to register our software, continually getting the “Failed to Connect” message from GOTD. Various suggestions have been made on the forum but none have helped (me, at least). Can this be addressed by GOTD? Perhaps supplying an s/n in the READ file as an alternative to the GOTD sign-on?

I have been having a hard time getting the extra program that gtd requires to be down loaded and implemented. When I try to unzip it says what program do you want to open it with. I have gotten some free stuff without the gtd extra program but most do not work without it. Perhaps staff or a blog member could give me some hints on how to work that part of the program. Thanks

I love GOTD and downloaded a lot of the free software in the past, some good, some bad, but I REALLY NEED Artisteer website builder. It’s good for building WordPress themes.

I am grateful to GOTD for all the hard work they do to bring us free software that we would otherwise have to pay for. I agree that a better system of rating would be better but all in all I love the site and enjoy reading the reviews of others who try the software. I just wish more people would give their opinions on the actual software instead of just saying they couldn’t install and giving it thumbs down. Just my 2 cents (which ain’t worth a nickel) :D

I download Wise Care 365 pro and a few days later it asked if I wanted to update which I did. Now I don’t have the pro anymore. It went back to the free version and I can’t get the pro back even when I restored my computer to that date.
Let people know not to get the updates because it does not update the pro versions.

When you offer programs I would use at work on the weekend I can’t download them before Monday when time has expired.
I just purchased a new computer and am lost without Sticky Password. I can’t transfer the program to the new computer, so it would be GREAT if you offered it again. Great program. And, great site! Thank you, GAOTD!
Thank you so much for providing this service and helping both consumers and producers. I have discovered many good software programs and I would gladly provide constructive feedback to improve the experience. WinUtilities and Wise Care 365 have stuck with me as really good products and I would really appreciate an update or more programs of that type. Sometimes you really have to test the competition to change your favourite maintenance program.
I also agree that the up/down-vote system doesn’t serve it’s purpose and is often misused by users who have not tried the software, and only wish to signal that the program looks unappealing because of high price, bad interface, little functionality, etc. Maybe we should have certain boxes that we an tick off to our review, e.g., “I have downloaded and tested the software”/”I would recommend this product to a friend”/”I was dissatisfied with the software” or other. Giving subjective ratings (such as a five star system) leaves too much room for interpretation, unless it is tied to a specific statement like “The program fits my needs.” (To what extent do you agree, from 0 to 5).
